US Chronicle of the Horse sold.

Hopefully not, and it was simply a question (not a statement) as to why it is 'Not a good thing'. I haven't read further than the first page of a rather long article. It seems Bellissimo is a brash, ruthless, American businessman (so what's new?) who has "outraged [...] tradition-minded equestrians [...] by installing [... a] carousel on his show grounds". The comments appear to be mixed in favour and against the man. So it isn't clear to me why his ownership would necessarily not be good for The Chronicle. Would you care to summarize?

Why my reference to soring/abuse? Only that there is a massive, long-running discussion thread on the CoTH forum on that topic, and I for one would not be pleased if someone who condones such practices or is generally horse-unfriendly now owned the magazine and forum - that's all.

Meaningless to me unless it involves an improvement in the horses lot.
Squabbles about money and influence are so boring and so human.

Blimey, Bruce Springsteen is interested in horses. Didn't know even though he's one of my music idols.

As an American, I take umbrage to that remark! Bellissimo may very well be brash and ruthless, but your "so what's new?" comment is tarring all American businessmen with the same brush. Try repeating that to my American husband, a very well-respected, courteous, honest businessman!

I'm sorry you took offence. The remark was more to question the implication that Bellissimo's brashness or ruthlessness should have any bearing on whether the sale of The Chronicle is a good or a bad thing. I am sure some great businesses are owned by people like that. Also, I wasn't casting aspersions on American businessmen (or even all businessmen) - brash and ruthless could accurately describe a subset of businessmen of most any nationality.

Oh dear, and then what would happen? (Of course, I would never do that!)

None of which throws any light on why the sale would not be a good thing!

This is a very odd thread

Plus OP why don't you expand on why you think it is "not a good thing" ?

Yes, odd indeed. No idea why it's a bad thing that a different (foreign) forum has been sold to someone we don't know, or why it needs a thread on this forum, or why equibrit is being rude to people. More details needed I think, because right now I'm thinking so what

oh dear god, snobbery abounds, even in America. Equibrit, are you a member of the Jacobs family? I am still failing to see why people on a UK forum would care who buys what in the States.

"A plague on both their houses" seems quite apposite. Well, at least they have access to fresh running water and medicine, and have enough to eat, and have a roof over their heads - so that is something!
