Whilst driving my daughter to pre-school today I passed a farm selling large round hay bales for $50 each. Is that the norm? I live in fairly snobby horse country right now and I know the price of boarding is higher here than elsewhere.

So, to those HHO'er in the USA, what do you pay for hay?

At the going currency rate that is also about $50Cdn, and a few odd cents.

Depends on the size of the bale, I pay $45 for 700lb bales, massive things,
$30 for regular size round bales, but we aren't posh here;) I also pay $30 for a round bale of straw which is much harder to get hold of than hay.

So, I'd say it was a bit above average for a regular bale compared to here in ON. It all depends on the availablity of the stuff, whether it was first, second cut, what quality it is and so on and so forth. Mind, if I thought I could get $50 a bale, I'd try for that too :D

Haha! Thanks Enfys! Just being nosey really. Never had to really look into the cost of keeping a horse here in the USA (yet!). Saw the sign and started me wondering!
Do you make your own hay? It seems that most yards here have their own field(s) for hay.
