use of offset insulators with fencing

I was thinking of using offset insulators upright to increase the height of my low post and rail fencing, and also deter horses going near it. Any reason why I could not do this?
 
Unless you use them at, say, a 45 degree angle you won't keep the horses further away. Or you might have meant you are going for vertical and also horizontal standoffs.
 
I use them for the stallion, as he would lean on the fence posts and break them, and not to get to the mares but to the bit of grass I have here! I have them at an angle, and once he knows its on he wont go near it...
