Is it possible to buy a discarded surface? My yard is rented so we need to keep capital expenditure under control. Had planned rubber but the cost has zoomed.

I know when they renew the all weather gallops at Nkt they sell off the old surface, and it is always in demand when they do. Might be worth contacting arena constructors/surface suppliers as they must replace surfaces as well as build new arenas and they would have to get rid of the old one somewhere.

Our local comp centre sold off their outdoor surface, we had some at our yard and made a lunge pen. It is ok now, was very deep and full of stones but when it had been watered and rolled it seemed to settle. I would contact all your local comp centres and see if any are replacing soon.

If only we had a decent comp centre in the area! My 'poor' arena is better than the indoor at one local show location!
In the short term, to get us through the worst of the frozen ground I'm making a 10 x 10 woodchip (from a tree surgeon) exercise area, will rot down eventually but will not freeze. Any port in a storm!!
