Hello, I have a old thermatex rug for sale on ebay. Its not in the best condition, its got a few holes and pulls and a patch. However its in fully usable condition and all straps fastenings in place etc. The offers I have been getting are in my opinion ridiculous. How much would you say a rug like this is worth? Im only selling it as its just a bit too big for my horse. Hes 15.2 cob. its a 6 9 . Maybe I have put too high a price but I have had offers of £23! Its due to finish today and if it does not sell will have to rethink my price, however, I thought these rugs held their price well?

Just had a nose, is it green with yellow binding? If so its a liveries colour but when I clicked on the pics it felt like you had gone out of your way to show the damage. Maybe put a couple more pics of the whole rug, maybe even on a nice horse if you have one and fewer pics of the holes. If it's not that one ignore me

I would look at selling in this group. There's a few with holes for around £60 so depending on how yours is, about right.

However what I would say is given you buy a size down, 6'9" is less popular than a smaller size

Others in a similar condition were sold for approx £30-£40. There is a fair amount of damage to the rug, frankly. (Assuming it’s the correct one I’m looking at!)

I bought one that looks in a similar condition recently for £35, it was a landrover branded one so quite smart. Also bought 2 for £50 a couple of years ago, kept the one I liked and sold the one I didn’t - sold it for £50 so in essence got mine for free!

I paid £50 on e-bay for one with a single professional repair and a DIY job on the belly straps. 5'3" so possibly a less popular size. I bought an immaculate one at 5'6" for £60

Do you mean it's 5ft 9? Otherwise he's got centipede breeding in him! 🤣

I'd have said around £45. My friend gave me hers, I was lucky!

I bought a 6ft 6 off a fellow livery for £40 and that was in fairly good condition.

Fair enough but you can see why I was surprised! No offence intended. 😉

I don't think I've ever had a 14hh pony in a 5ft3 rug. Mine are as follows

14.2hh immature younster - 5ft9 (lots of filling out to do)

12.2hh 5yr old - 5ft 6

14hh welsh cob - 6ft3

@Sandstone1 I have a 6ft thermatex in usable condition which I've advertised a couple of times for £20 and had no interest at all. I wouldn't take offense by the low offers ebay suggests offers usually.

Blimey had no idea.
I thought they were pretty standard.
Well they say everyday is a school day!

I have 2 Irish cobs, one barely 15hh, the other approx 15.2hh, both take 6'6" rugs, as did my 16hh TBxWelsh. I aquired a thermatex that someone else threw out as it needed patching, repaired it and it fits my boys, no idea what size it is.

I had no idea they held their value like that! I have one in really good nick about 12 yrs old - nice to know I can probably recoup what I paid for it if I ever sell it(bought from the factory in person as a "second" but I've never found a fault on it.
My two 14.2s are both in 6ft 3 rugs, they both have wide shoulders and chests.

And some of the thermatex come up really big. Got a horse that takes 6'6", can get away with 6'3" in a couple of brands. Bought a 6'3" Thermatex in the seconds sale and and really should have got 6'0"

However the 6'6" Thermatex knitted summer sheet is ok

Assuming you declare it as from the seconds sale, less than the full price ones as they are less than half price to start with, I think mine was £85.

They last for ever and are about £200 new which not many people can afford. Look at the link I posted to see how much they get in the specialist Facebook group.

Too right, a 14.2 sec D entire standardly in a 6’6”....
Thermatex originals are usually generous in sizing, you can often go down from a normal rug size, but Thermatex Cordura covered stable rugs come up shorter in my experience.
As per horse above, wears Cordura covered version in size 6’9” (i’ve possibly managed to shrink it a bit over the years?), but a beautiful fit.
If nice and clean, you could always darn this rug?
On the sofa with a Thermatex over your lap - could save on central heating for as long it takes to complete!
