Hi

Saddle fitter has advised to go down treeless saddle route until my hefty cob (who has lost about 60kg), loses the fat pads on his shoulders.

So I’m looking at a used Trekker Pro Endurance as they seem to have good reviews for this type of horse/problem, but the pommel on this one is not adjustable -a fixed hoop?

Does anyone have one of these and does it still fit width challenged ponies?!

I ride treeless. Not tried the Trekker but they did come up as "good" on Port Lewis Impression Pad trials.

Best if you're new to treeless though, is to try a few. If you go onto the "Better Saddles" website you will find companies that will let you have a trial.

I have a chunky cob (two actually!) and found the TreeFree Tor was a good fit for this type; did try a Barefoot but they do tend to be uncomfortably "wide" on chubby horses.

I also am borrowing a Torsion and am liking it!! Nice little saddle.

Whereabouts are you OP? I'm in Devon and if you're in the SW you could come and have a sit on mine...........

I had the Trekker Luxus for my Arab and it was a fantastic saddle. I spent a lot of time looking into them.

I would not get the fixed pommel Trekker. They are the original Trekkers and old now, there were problems with them if I remember correctly( too narrow) hence why they redesigned and made the pommel adjustable.
You need to get one as new as possible if you are buying second hand. Check it's not fake and that the panels and pommel are in good condition as they are expensive to replace.

eta. If it's the Trekker on Ebay I wouldn't personally buy it as it is one of the oldies. The stirrup bar is fixed and the suede seat is so worn it almost looks like leather, pads look flat too and they are not adjustable like the new Trekkers ( also important for spinal clearance) and the numnah is not Trekker as they didn't make one. That doesn't actually matter as you don't necessarily need a special pad for a Trekker but just pointing the mistake out !
I would save your money, add some more and get a newer one

Thank you for the offer but I’m near Manchester! In the end I went for a used Barefoot which is taking some getting used to! It’s slipping backwards and I also don’t feel that there’s anything in front of me (too used to dressage knee rolls!). No option but to persevere for now. I didn’t realise Better Saddles did trials or I would have tried one first ?
