Is it me or has anyone also not ridden for what seems forever, with weather, night closing in & personal reasons work/no school/tow bar. It's been a almost 2wks since I rode, god knows how I thought I was going to keep my horse fit over winter.
Guess it's weekends for me now on.. Kind of sad.

You`re not alone, last time i managed to ride was last Thursday, and that was the first ride in about 5 weeks (due to personal stuff and then later the weather) !!! **sigh** .. both of mine are now very fat and unfit ...

I can only ride at the weekends now, but i'm seriously considering taking her out in the dark with lights (off the roads of course) or lunging in the dark in the field (we don't have a school).

My cob was a joy, i could go all winter without riding him and he would appear to keep himself fit (although we didn't do this, he got ridden every weekend). I'm dreading this winter, current mare needs to be ridden everyday, if she isn't she becomes very grumpy and difficult. I've got to get my plan in action to get her exercised one way or another

I was feeling sorry for myself but am not so unhappy now, I feel like it's not only me. I ride at weekends and if I am lucky manage to go up once or twice in the evenings. We do have a school with one floodlight, which is just about adequate for a 20m circle.

You are not alone... i find the whole transition into winter so so depressing it really effects me.. i work 9-5.30 so no riding for me when the clocks change, i am sneaking in a quick lunging session when the weathers a little brighter at the mo after work but only when the weathers ok as it stays lighter that little bit longer.. my horse is going really well and i hate having to slow things down through winter.. we do have access to lights and a generator which i intend to use but.. my mums horse can't be left in the stable on his own so i have to lead him down and let him loose in the school with me... very annoying.. :( plus the generator is quite loud and spooks the horses for the first 5 minsutes at least at the mo.. roll on spring!!!

My horse went lame in May. Came sound 8 weeks ago and saddle didn't fit. Ordered new one and still waiting :(

Other horse has had 11 months off and can be ridden now. Got him a saddle and just waiting for it to be fitted. Hopefully this weekend.

So I missed all the nice summer riding :(

I haven't ridden properly for weeks as I've had pneumonia. The horses are getting fat and hairy and are treating lunging as a good excuse for a hooley.
I made myself give one a really good groom today and mucked out three boxes and swept the yard and am now on the sofa in agony. It's so frustrating looking out the window to see my lovely new arena not in use and the horses looking feral. I've been feeling very moany this week as I just feel so utterly useless.

I have not been able to ride for some time due to back issues so I have resorted to long reining and whatever the weather I can do this which is alot of fun. You do not need an arena, do not have one anyway so I have marked off a small area and use that, I also long rein on the trail.

Long reining is good for horse and human - we can supple up together.

Our little Shetland is progressing well but we are some way off the fancy dressage movements

:D

Due to lameness issues and pregnancy I haven't ridden in MONTHS! :D

Not appealing to start riding in the winter despite maternity leave, I might give him extra field rest (trying to transition to barefoot anyway) and try and start properly again in feb/march. Won't rule out a quick poddle out if its a nice day and the baby is behaving though :)

I feel ashamed moaning when it's only been weeks snd some of you people have gone months. Though I'm dreading the leg ache when I do :0).
