Hi everyone,

I have recently brought the John Whitaker Training aid which i believe is very similar to the pessoa.

Anyway, can anyone give me any tips when putting it on for the first time, i have a feeling my boy isnt going to like it very much..... anyone had any experience of this?

Thanks

Hi thanks, yeah i know how to use it but i wondered if anyone had any experiences of their horses having a mental the first time they used it and if so what did they do!!?

Hi,
i have possoaed many a horse and if its your horse's first time make sure its not too tight so he can move fairly freely until he starts working properly and is used to it and nicely warmed up.
Loads of horses rush to start with because they don't like the back piece but its a wonderful tool for your horse to get a nice outline with.

Thanks kath49, i'll make sure it isn't too tight, if anything i think i will end up making it too loose as i will be worried! I just cant help but think he isnt going to like it, but i guess he will soon realise it isn't going to eat him!

You will have to let me know how you get on but im sure he will be fine, most horses settle in to it i've found quite quickly.
Got to say though my tb mare thinks she is being chased the first 5 mins in one then she realises its only the pessoa lol but thats just my crazy tb mare.

Thanks I will! I was thinking i might just attach the back bit first and tie up the front lines to the roller so he gets used to the bit around his bum before i strap the rest up!

I know exactly what you mean, he is a crazy tb!!

get someone to ACTUALLY show you how it works, and explain clearly...

these type of so-called training aids can easily fitted incorrectly and are very damaging if used this way...

i wouldn't even attempt to fit one by "internet" direction alone..you need to see some-one "doing it" IMO...
