Can you use a black saddle cloth for dressage as opposed to white? :)

I have a black one with a fish tail - would this be okay to use?

Yep - BD guidelines are white, cream (I think... would need to dig out rule book and check - it's online if you're interested!) or any sensible, dark colour so black is fine :)

Rule 54 Saddle cloths * flags
If used, saddle cloths may be white/cream or a dark conservative colour.

^^ From BD rulebook.

We don't use white because Kali is a fleabitten grey and white just makes him look dirty . . . so we use a really nice mid-grey . . . looks really smart.

I've been told off for using a black numnah unaff before!

Hopefully not by the judge?! If it ever happens again, point them nicely in the direction of affiliated guidelines...

Bet that looks lovely :) Especially with a grey jacket! Do you have any photos? (Sorry, OP...)

Tell the judge to read the handbook!

I use black, navy or burgundy. White is far too much effort to keep clean! I have a mahogany bay and white skewbald so navy and burgundy look really smart on her, especially with a navy jacket and silk.

I have had judges criticise me for not plaiting before too. The words Foxtrot Oscar sprung to mind - life is too short!

I used to think that re plaiting until I discovered running plaits. Takes 10 minutes to do 2 or 3 running plaits, one on the top half of the mane and the other on the lower half of the mane and sometimes one in the middle. If you split the running plait like this it doesn't fall out.

New horse is same as yours and I've just bought navy, which looks great and chocolate, which is OK. white looks hideous on him, too much white altogether and it either makes the numnah look grey or he looks dirty!

Actually jacket is navy, but the grey has a slight purpley-bluey tinge to it . . . it looks very smart . . . let me see if I can find a pic.

OK - could only find videos and this is the shortest one . . . please, please, please excuse how extremely tense and staccato he is - he totally lost the plot that day and it is NOT the fault of his lovely jockey who kept him together extremely well given the circumstances. It does, though give you an idea of the colour of the saddle cloth and the jacket together.
