I've only recently heard of this idea: a tail bandage is attached to the roller, taken around the horse's hindquarters and then attached to the other side of the roller. Does anyone do this? Does it actually work??
I find it hard to fathom that attaching a bit of stretchy material around my big bumbling cob would encourage him to step under more? Is it something that only tends to work on sensitive TBs? Pole work is a bit hit-and-miss and I can't really think what else I could do to encourage engagement? All other 'gadgets' seem only to work on the front end.

Those who do do this, did you find it had an immediate effect or did it take a while for your horse to twig? How tight should the bandage be? I would also love to see some pictures.

Thanks in advance :)

I was told by my physio to lunge my horse like this after he had a few lameness issues that affected his posture and his movement, I think it helped and I prefer this method to a pessoa as it does not interfere with the front, you can have it fairly tight as its elastic so it will stretch, the only way to see if it helps is try it as it wont do him any harm either way.

Can some one post a picture?
i been thinking about doing this with Levi but want to know where the bandage should sit, i am guessing not below the hocks but would be nice just to see some ones horse or pony with it on , also how have you lovely people attached it to your rollers? just tieing it on?

Click on the video for the Hayjack case study on the above link and fast forward to about 2min40. You will see how Gail advises using bandages for this; they are ACE bandages that she uses.......generally wider and more elastic than your average tail bandage. She ties one bandage in a loop loosely around the neck and then ties the second bandage to this, around the quarters and fastens on the opposite side.

Saw it done in a demo and have used it on one of mine. There was a thread on this before where someone posted the picture of my horse off of his blog and commented I think that it was a bit high but it was the first time I had used it and was being very careful! If you search on here you might find the thread.

I use one a lot as advised by the physio in order to help build muscle and strengthen his topline.

I did use a Pilates band initially but it perished so have resorted to a tail bandage
