Using an optimum time watch for minute markers but wanting a 10 second countdown?

My daughter uses a watch xc. She adds 10 seconds onto the optimum time and presses the start button when the starter gives her the 10 second alarm. So far she's just used it to check her time towards the end - mainly because horse can go too fast. She'd like to start using the minute markers properly, but still have a 10 second countdown. Doing it this way means that her minute markers are 10 seconds off. Does anyone do similar - I'm completely clueless when it comes to watches and timing.

Move it to 5 secs and you will have a better window and just run to minute markers as normal.
