Using Creosote around a mare in foal?

The yard owner at my yard is wanting to paint the fences with creosote and my mare is in foal so i just wanted to check it was ok to use around her? Thanks

We've always used it with no problems.

Can you even get creosote now.
I thought it had been replaced by a safer alternative years ago.

Farms (ie have an agric holding number and fencing professionals are still allowed to order it, but not the general public). So yes it is still available to those categories. However there are guidelines on where it should/shouldnt be used even for the permitted users.

Should be fine for mare but be careful as a friends foal got very ill licking recently creosoted fencing

It isn't something I would use round animals that might obsessively lick it like a foal ESP when recently applied. Older horses and older treated posts probably fine.
