Having made a huge batch of my homemade flyspray which contains vast amounts of avon skin so soft I was thinking what other human products do we use on the horses.

So what do people use that isn't strictly for equines?

Oh... I also use baby wipes on their tack - not sure of the long-term effects on this on the leather but so far so good - I am useless at cleaning my tack fully every time I ride (who is good at this?!) so a quick once over with the baby wipes at least gets rid of some of the sweat and dust.

I use boots own brand of hair serum.

After buying cowboy magic hair detangler for my horse I found it cheaper just to buy human hair serum instead, works just as well :)

Aloe vera gel for grazes and cuts.

My horse had a sarcoid when he was a yearling, I was told to put a blob of marmite on it, it seemed it irritate it and he rubbed it then it came off in a nice lump and never had problems with them since.

Baby wipes! They are brilliant for touchups at shows and if I remember rightly (not used them yet this year) they give a bit of shine as well as they contain some moisturiser! My horse much prefers me to wipe her face with wipes than a sponge. They must be safe as they are for babies and are no more tears :D
Also use more that have been mentioned already such as savlon, baby bath/oil, etc.

A lot of the things I use are for humans.

Supplements, oils, seaweed, shampoo, baby wipes, baby oil, aloe vera, hairspray, conditioner, sudocrem and rescue remedy. I probably have more but can't think of them atm. :)

I use sudocrem, vaseline, savlon, etc lol i use asda value shampoo and conditioner. Years and years ago for plaiting (dont plait now, have natives) i used good old fashioned hairspray! I dont use detergents though such as washing up liquid as it makes my hands dry and itchy if i dont wear gloves so i dont risk it irritating my boys x

Face wipes are great for getting the grime off dirty tack :)

I also use baby wipes for faces/bottoms, sudocrem for wounds, dematix for potential scars and blue fairy liquid for getting the stains out of my grey's tail.

I have however decided that barrier hygiene sunburn soother works far better than any human sun block on my horse :)

May I ask how you use them? Used ones or new ones? Dampen them and wipe the horse's eyes? Or some how else? Thanks :)

I get two new bags and soak one each in cups of warm water, say while i make my haynets, then I will use the bags to dampen the horse's eyes. I use separate bags in case one eye might have an infection and don't want to spread it to the other eye. I tend to use the pyramid bags too, just a bit more to hold on to! Or if you like, let the "tea" stand a bit longer and use cotton wool to cleanse the eyes with the tea water. :) twice a day. Call a vet if they don't clear up or get worse.

works every time mine get weepy eyes though.

I thought that might be the case!

Nizerol Hair Shampoo - Ringworm, Mudfever, Rain Scald, Greasy Heel. Any hair loss on face and for Itchy Tails. Also wash grooming kit in it.

Fructis Sleek & Shine for Coarse Rebelleous Hair Shampoo & the Conditioner leaves my Clydesdales tail soft and sleek and smells fantastic

Zinc & Caster Oil Ointment as a sun block and also to cover recovering mudfever patches.

Bonjela for sore mouths

Curash Baby Powder Mixed into a paste with warm water and rubbed into white socks, allow to dry and brush off extra = brillient white socks

Delva Spray Sheen Puts a lovely shine on mane, tail & coat before going into the show ring - also puts a good shine on synthetic riding boots

Hairspray to fix plaits tight

Canestan in Wash rinse to kill off any fungus when I wash covers and towels used on the horses

Baby wipes clean muzzles brilliently before going in the ring.

Sunlight Soap Liquid & Bar soap - pre scrub of white socks

Hair gel for plaits but I've decided Hairspray works better

do you just use fairy liquid like a shampoo or squirt some in a bucket and use that water with a sponge? fairy liquid always seems to froth right up with household duties?? is it easy to wash out without endless suds??
