Posting on behalf of a mate here. She has a very good mare at intermediate BE who is usually a super reliable jumper. Thus season, she's been getting a little tense in the dressage, so she's been put on the magic instant calmer before a test. However, this seems to have coincided with a loss of performance in the jumping - not so in front of the leg, slight lack of concioucness if she hits a pole (in the past of this was to happen, she'd balloon the next fence!). The mare is also on regumate and we were wondering if anyone had seen any effects of using this with a calmer???
Thoughts greatfully received and I'm afraid I can only offer you a cuppa if you get thus far :)
Btw back, teeth etc fine. Bloods taken yesterday too

My mare is on regumate and magnitude daily and I use instant calmers before we event. I haven't noticed any side effects of using the two together. I have used Naf Magic, Carl Hester Pro Mag and Applecalm/Carrotcalm syringes and all seem to work well. They help my mare focus for the dressage but her natural enthusiasm still shines through for her jumping.

Maybe your friend's horse finds the calmer a bit too much for her - i.e it is working a bit too well? could your friend try giving the calmer a bit earlier or even the evening before so that it is wearing off a bit by the time she jumps?
