using manuka honey -how ? & without dressing?

Hi,

We have decided to try some manuka honey on my foal to help with his wound not scarring etc,

I can find active 15+ manuka honey but cant find any higher?

also his wound is just below the stifle - which will be had to dress! never mind on a foal lol, so how do i put the honey on? do i just "smear" it on? how do i stop him from licking it/getting straw stuck to it? etc

i really cant imagine how i would dress it! with a bandage dropping down to his hock
 
Yep, just smear it on. You will have to keep doing it no doubt as some will rub off. Try to get a higher factor, try health food shops??

The stuff is amazing!!! My mare tore her hock to shreds last year, can hardly see the scarring now!
Just smear it on and re apply when needed. Try holland and Barrett website.
 
I just used it on my mare's badly kicked hock (front of joint). I put Aloe vera on during the day after cleaning, then smeared Manuka honey on at night. It all cleaned off no problem in the morning and I can't say the aubiose sticking to it caused any problems. I have to say that that combination beat the use of "normal" veterinary products into a cocked hat as I was treating another nasty cut due to a kick on the other hock almost at the same time so was able to compare!!
 
I agree with previous posts, just apply to the wound, but I would ensure the area was clean before reapplying the next layer-and keep the jar clean too!

If you can bandage a wound then it is better as you can keep the wound cleaner, but this is obviously not always possible!

I've had some great results with the honey though, and always use now.
