As title really. I hate plain wire as I have seen a few really nasty injuries where horses are concerned. Just wondered what the general opinion was with regards to its use with everyone else as was having discussion with a firend today who uses it despite having had a serious injury to one of her horses involving it.

I use plain wire with electric running through it. All my horses respect it no torn rugs and the two shetlands dont try and go through it. I did put pieces of plastic on the top strand when we first put it up so that they could see it and the big horse did break one strand when another horse was put in the field next door. But that was 3 years ago.

I use plain wire and my old boy old boy and shetland are fine with it and so is the other mare but we have got a tb youngster on our yard that is fine in the spring/summer but as soon as the grass is not as good and has got his rug on (cant feel the electric) he is forever breaking the fencing he is a pain in the a**e!

One of the reasons I left the last yard, broken fencing left in place, new upright post, but just 3 rows of plain wire fixed over it, bodge job in my view, accident waiting to happen, especially as the idiot public will be clambering over it when they shouldn't at some point, money for "proper" timber fencing around trees at the lake from the rangers ect and cutting perfectly healthy trees down, but fencing around horses field falling to bits and leaning over badly gets left and left and left...................... bloody glad to be away from the mickey mouse setup

No, don't like the stuff.

When Kai was 2, I had my 3 in a field surrounded by high hedges and drystone walls. To stop them getting laminitis, we split the field in half. But the owner used plain wire.

Kai decided to jump the fence, just clipped the top wire and flipped over. The top 2 wire wrapped round and round her leg, she ended up lying on the floor with her leg in the air jammed in with wire.

Luckily I was there, so sat on her head while I called the vet, and a dog walker rushed off for wire cutters.

If I hadn't been there, I'd hate to think what would have happened. I very scary experience all round.

No wouldn't ever my friends 16 month old tore her back tendon off getting it caught in plain wire whilst she was playing. She is lucky to be alive but will never be shown or jump :-( like she was bred to do. Is still happy and contented but is a great loss.
