Using someones Lorry and payment??

Costs to hire transport locally for me:

Trailer - £35 per day (still need your own vehicle)
3.5 ton lorry - £110 per day
7.5 ton lorry - (V.hard to hire without driver, with driver £25 an hour minimum 5 hours and carries 3 horses)
HGV - £50 per horse (4 horses)

Cost just to park my lorry at my yard - £20 per month

Bargain!
To hire a trailer here it costs £60 per day
Hence why we bought our own trailer. :D

I wouldn't even lend my trailer out tbh....and I certainly would not lend my lorry. They cost a lot of money to run and maintain. £20 per horse to use every weekend is an absolute steal - you are very lucky.

I think the thing is some people (me included) don't really charge when friends borrow their lorry so when someone is realistic it does take you by surprise.

I just ask them to put diesel in and they often put in more than they use and it does it good to have a run.

However it is expensive to keep a lorry on the road so it does seem fair. Little things can happen, minor scratches that aren't a big deal but can become so. Maybe if you have a charge like this you don't worry about these things as much because someone is contributing.

When I first got mine one friend wanted to borrow it and I had the insurance upgraded to any driver. I took her out so she could get the feel of driving it as she had only driven the little 3.5t vans before and after going round the block she decided she wasn't confident to drive it. Although I mentioned it a couple of times, she never gave me the money I paid out to have the insurance changed (luckily only about £30).

If my YO gave me free use of her lorry at £20 a trip I would think all of my Christmases had come at once. I would be grateful, excited and over the moon!

I do hope that the owner of this lorry does not read this board  I know that if it were me and I had read this thread and recognised the OP, she would NEVER use my lorry again! She thinks she is doing the owner a favour by using it and then not being happy at paying for her friend to have a lift. I am actually cross on behalf of the lorry owner

Pretty similar prices around here too, and you also have to leave a £250 deposit for damages with the self-drive boxes.

I hate lending my trailer out, I do it for good friends or people who have helped me out, but I dread people asking. I would drive it to pick someone's horse up or give someone a lift, but to let someone else go off with it fills me with dread.

I also think this person is being very generous to you.
