Using spurs, am I old fashioned?

I wear spurs, simply because my mare does plant herself threatened to rear and i've no other way or encouraging her forwards, as when she gets in the state she doesn't listen to my leg at all, and she doesn't allow whips. I don't use them unless I have to, as i'm very OCD about riding with my toes forward and heals back, so I used the side of my leg.

ok not read all replies but im old fashioned as i never want a quick fix from a gadget i want a horse working from behind through the back in to my hands happy in thier work - spurs have a place with good experienced riders with a good balanced seat good legs any artificial aid as a place when used right(which sadly you see them used so wrong nowadays for sake of fashion!) but sorry good old fashioned schooling is the best - why rush the education of a horse for a quick fix but hey only my opioion folks :)

I hardly ever wear spurs. I wear them if I am schooling a horse which I know isn't quick off the leg and wear them to help to improve this as I think it is far kinder to give them a gentle squeeze with the spurs rather than kicking constantly. On my boy, I rarely wear spurs on him but I do when I school him on the flat for the same reason above.

Gosh, you all must hate me-

I ride in spurs all of the time on both of my horses, for schooling, hacking and jumping.

Even worse, one of my horses is a very big, very green youngster and I use the spur to get him forwards when he is being nappy and refusing to go forwards- much better imo to give him a nudge with the spur than a great pony club kick or a whack with a whip.

Spurs are great as if I don't need them, I don't use them- it is very possible to use the leg a lot without the spur coming into contact with the horse.

String me up now! :)

Snap, crackle and pop :)
I'll use what I feel needed on my boys, and so far I've managed without having to justify myself to the mighty HHO ;)
