My pony cut her shoulder tonight, about 2 1/2 inches long and it was open so you could see the fleast underneath, open about 1cm.
I gave the vet a call for some advice; he said to wash it, super glue the skin back together and put steri strips on top. He has also got me some anti biotics.
I have to say it worked a treat, the cut almost looked as if it have been cut with a scapel it was so clean and the super glue is holding it together great, he said that he could staple it or stich it but as it was in such an awkward place chances are it may rip.
I have never heard of using super glue before and wondered other peoples opinions on it??

Thanks in advance :D

My brother's a vet and used to superglue tarantulas together when people had dropped them and their skin had split as a result :D

As far as I know, it was first used in Vietnam to hold wounds together whilst soldiers awaited further treatment....

How interesting ; according to my mum it's a common place in a&e aswell! Dw I have left a space at the end so if there is an infection it would open up. The vets also given my some anti biotics and he's coming out to do her yearly vacs next Tuesday so can check on it's progress :)

Just had surgery myself - they stich deep, then in the middle of the muscle - and then tissue glue the surface and use a dressing - leaves negligible scarring.

Medical superglue is different from normal super glue and cuts are thoroughly washed out first.

However, your vet seems to have covered all bases by telling you to wash, then seal the would and antibiotics to prevent infection so I am sure all will be fine.

It is also true, glueing leaves very little if at all any scarring, best of luck, let us know how it goes, photos would be great.

LOL I cut the top of my finger off and had it glued back on about 2 years ago; It did sting a bit, but healed so well, I don't have much feeling in it, but as they say where there's no sense :D
