Using Vanish On Horses - Does It Work?!

So the wee coloured job has very yellow front legs. Nothing is shifting it.

Does Vanish work?? I have tried every other method of whiteness I know but have never tried this before?!

The yellowness is the last of his problems at the moment lol! He got kicked just beside his wotsit which is lovely and swollen lol so he is currently on bute and anti-biotics port boy! He is loving the hosing though!

I've never tried it, but I'd probably patch test before and make sure to rinse thoroughly. I can imagine it does work though. The best stuff I have ever used was some sort of industrial carpet cleaner - not something I would have used personally, but the yard I worked on had been using it for years. Brought white hair up really really white! Can#t for the life of me remember the name though.

If you get it on your skin, it turns it white, don't think I would risk it on a horse personally.

Yes we use it on the ends of tails all the time: this is my horse's tail when we were down in Cornwall a couple of weeks ago and his tail doesn't look too bad considering he is usually minging and we had had two days hunting in very sticky conditions when he came hope looking as though he had been dipped in chocolate! I didn't want to hog the facilities of the place we were staying at so it was quickly washed with fairy liquid, spritzed with Vanish & rinsed off:

I can also highly recommend tresemme shampoo as that strips the colour out of everything, and we have also used steradent, net curtain whitener & tomato ketchup. If I am in a hurry I have also been known to use purple spray & then rinse that off.

Have just reread the OP. I wouldn't personally use it on anything but ends of tails, but the other things I mentioned are more suitable for legs

I used to use it on my show cob, it was the only thing thing that worked on his knees and hocks if they became really ingrained, he never had a reaction although he was sensitive in general, it was always rinsed out very thoroughly.

White vinegar is also good at stripping stains out of greys.

I would use it on hair that is not touching skin I know if an item of my underwear happens to get into a vanish wash by accident it itches like you would not believe, I would use the purple blue shampoo's or just good old chalk the night before on wet hair bandage and brush off in the morning.

I have tried every shampoo etc going. He also gets lathered in sheep face white which is better than chalk by the way!

I've had huge success with Ace bleach which is a 'gentle' bleach, but that was on hair not touching skin

It was just given a quick tidy up, having had a trot along the beach the day after a VERY muddy day hunting. It is normally rather an unpleasant shade of yellow............ but vanish does do the trick!

I find tails easier to get white than body hair. My big grey has an almost translucent tail that is currently a disgusting shade of brown. A couple.of washes with fairy liquid and it will be perfect.

Accidentally used it thinking I'd picked up the mane and tail one day, he's never been so white! I hosed for ages, was terrified he'd have a massive reaction.

We use Milton fluid on a white tail, after using Blue Fairy liquid, then a final shampoo with Diamond white.

I have to say, I wouldn't as I know that when I get it on my hands they go all soft and slimey, takes me AGES to wash it off and then my hands crack .

I'm always getting "omg how do you do that" comments about my b/w horse who's white is white.

What I do? Nothing. I've no idea why he's white. I have elves who clean him overnight.

Some people swear by tomato ketchup for getting white really white! Never tried it myself though.

For those special days, make a paste of Curash baby powder and water. Scrub into white socks, allow to dry and brush out excess

It doesn't. You wash it off before putting anything in your mouth. And it contains peroxide.

The stuff the use for showing sheep is the best - known as sheep face white. It's actually a white dye rather than a stain remover and gets them sparkly. It's completely safe - it's the thing they use to make mayo white instead of yellow

Friend made a similar mistake on herself but with nail varnish remover and make up removal! (She too was fine)
