Uterus infection causing bad behaviour - anyone experienced this?

Had my mare up to vets today and she has an infection in her uterus. Vet thinks this could be the cause of her recent bad behaviour. Anyone else experienced this? Did the behaviour get better? I am remaining hopeful but a bit sceptical until I actually see a difference.

To be honest, I'd be surprised. We have the odd uterine infection with the brood mares, but have never seen it cause any sort of change in hteir behaviour (although, of course, we're not riding them.) But if the infection caused pain (and bad behaviour was a response to pain) then I'd have thought the mares might have at least been a bit grumpy. But no - behaved normally - stood for the stallion - just didn't get in foal!

I'd certainly be interested in hearing how you get on though.

Thanks JanetGeorge,

As I understand, the infection was causing her to produce far too much oestrogen - thus making her almost permanently in season, even at this time of year.
Personally I think she has a tendency to be a stroppy madam anyway and this has just exaggerated the issue.

I really hope it does work as she has become a nightmare to ride.

I don't know what sort of infection it was yet as the swab only went in today. Will keep you posted.

my poor mare just been through months of the same thing ,her temprement changed dramaticley after weeks of treatment injections and scans cost around £600 total but she now seems better and her old self again,i am going to give angus cactus too but how much to give can you advise please snow plough, good luck with getting your mare settled will make a big difference im sure,

agnus castus is produced from the chaste berry tree so has the same active ingredient as 'hormonise', which I have been using sucessfully on my mare. How much does the agnus castus cost? I pay £20 for 1 litre hormonise which lasts about 4-5 weeks. The laminitis trust also recommend agnus castus for Cushings horses so it seems a very beneficial natural product. Definitely worth a try I would say.

I get agnus cactus in homeopathic form from the Helios pharmacy in Tunbridge wells by mail order.
I gave her one a day in a 30 potency for a month. She now has one every other day.
They cost about £4.00 depending on the size of the bottle.
Dont touch the tablets, pop them on to the lid and pop in the feed

There is a massive improvement in her and I will wait and see if her lami improves too and report back
