Stubble field beckoning and Robin thought it was a great idea. All the back chat down the track to the field. Then down the hill of the stubble. Along the bottom while I very quietly shortened reins. Pointing up the hill and I get the over exaggerated leap into canter (erm I’m sure I said trot mr) followed by more talk about how he was a free spirit and I couldn’t tell him what to do. Managed some recognisable trot so allowed him to canter. However telling him the ground is wet, keep a lid on I don’t want you to hurt yourself. More chat about he is a racehorse don’t I know but actually settled pretty well to a nice canter. It’s quite a pull up the hill and he isn’t THAT fit. So we get to the top and he goes “ooft that was fun but I’ll just walk now cos I’m a good boy” with definite puffing! Yeah I believe you mr, your not as fit as you would like to pretend.

I'm with Robin - it's a pride thing . When I go out running I hold my breath whenever I pass people - you can't let them hear you puffing and panting like an amateur . Nearly passed out once when there was a long queue waiting at the bus stop , but hey - what're a few flashing lights and a wave of vertigo when you're a closet thoroughbred .
