UV mask rubbing and struggling to.find alternative

I have a pony with uveitis who wears his mask 24/7. I can't take it off at night because the yard is only.open 8am to 8pm and the sun is strong.

At the moment it is wet and his Guardian mask.is rubbing his face badly under the eyes. I changed for an Equivizor light mask, but this has rubbed behind the ears. I can't find anything else in his size that doesn't effectively have the same fastenings (Equivizor normal, Harrison Howard doesn't fit).

I am thinking of putting the fleece protection that you get for nose bands and head collars on the ear strap and then sewing patches under the eyes. However, it is very wet here but with high UV. It is likely to cause even more problems having wet fleece against the skin? At least the mask dries quickly.

Similar problems with Miss Sicknote. I used the fleecy sleeves with velcro on the hand piece and throat straps on the equivisor cutting them to exact size so none of the webbing touched her. A set on her and a set in the wash. Adjusting the tightness helped with rubbing under the jaw.

It is a balance, what is more detrimental, a flare up or having to deal with a sore. Every flare up is step closer to disaster. Can you use the rambo bee keeper mask on him ? I find swapping types and brands has helped, never using anything that can collapse inwards.

The Rambo beekeeper I would use but it is 60% UV and the index is at 8/10 at the moment.

I will add the fleece sleeves. I don't have the actual sleeves for the mask as I have been waiting over a month for them to arrive. The ones I have are more for standard headcollars.

You are right, a flare up is worse. But his face is such a mess .

Look at Kensington uviator (80%) and Equilibrium (70%) in order to swap them all over. They were mentioned in David Marlin results as being up to what they say.

In my experience the key is to switch to a different style overnight to change the pressure points. The Guardian also rubbed our boy under the eyes, it’s poorly designed for something so expensive, and I stitched faux fleece under the eyes which did stop that. But then it starts to rub behind the ears! I added a fleece cover to that part too, like what you’d put on a bridle as you suggest.

For now we’re rotating the HH and the Nags and it’s working great! Good luck.

I can't find the Harrison Howard in his size (S) and the Kensington Uviator worries me as it looks close to the eyes. My pony has quite a wide brow and the Guardian touches his eyelashes and most soft masks are close to his eyes. I have swapped over today and added the fleece to the Equivisor, and I have the Guardian to sew on the fleece under the eyes.

I noticed that he is rubbing his head so I think that either the rubbed areas are sore or itching. If tomorrow he is still this uncomfortable I will buy the Rambo as the UV indice is low for the next four days, so this should give it time to heal a bit.

I saw the Nag Horse recently and was tempted by it, but wasn't sure of the fit.

We used the Nag Horse on both our 16hh Appy and a Welsh Sec A and really rate it to be honest! Good clearance, keeps its shape well and seems comfy for them too.

We have also used the Kensington UViator and like those too but they do start to collapse eventually.
