In May last year my horse had uveitis, we hoped it would be a one off and would get better over a few weeks. I then made the mistake of searching for information on the web and forums and the prognosis didn't look good- eye removal, loss of sight or PTS filled me with dread, please let it be a one off...

Unfortunaly my 5yr old little ex racer then had it 4 times over the summer, eye drops each time (luckly he is VERY good with the drops) it was now the recurrant form. I then knew I had to take the next step and consider the implant as it can cause damage over time and they believe is quite painful for the horse.

I was worried about the thought of surgery and having to go through an operation (I also stupidly googled that too!!) After visits by 2 fantastic eye specialists and support from my vet the operation was booked. It all went well and the implant was put in, so far we are 2 weeks after the operation, he is still on eye drops four times a day but we are gradually going to decrease this over around 40 days. It is a long and sometimes difficult journey and we hope the implant will sort the problem.

I can not fully say he is cured but this horrible eye problem does not have to mean the worse and if one person searches Uveitis and sees this post please don't think it is a death sentence. :)

I have just read about uveitis in BRITISH HORSE the official magazine of the British Society march /april 2013 ,it refers to an article written in 2012 by David Gibson from Stafford he has had success treating Uveitis with rosehip, I hope this may help you .
