Uvex and BE hat tagging

So hats being retagged this year. I couldn't get my uvex tagged. The guy said although its EN1384 its not batched tested. Fair enough but a bit stupid given that its ok for FEI and the official hat of the dutch team!

Anyway would be fine, but I've just been on the uptown eventing fb page and noticed a couple of riders at hambledon with Uvex hats on. Checked the numbers on BDWP and they were not in international classes. So how can they be wearing uvex?

I did notice that these riders are not UK nationals but can you wear them in non FEI classes or not?
 
It probably just depend who tagged your hat, you could have had another person do it and they would have tagged it no problem. Just bad luck for you.
 
I've had a convo with one of the BE safety team about this in the past, and the people who have them tagged shouldnt have! They will get caught up with sooner rather than later...

Yep, but that's personal choice of who buys them. Personally I ride in a casco, as its comfortable, and although not got a high standard is well regarded and tested in Europe :)
 
Although they are only tested to EN1384, uvex are actually supposed to be safer, they are just not tested to the british PAS015 because they are manufactured in Germany.

Uvex are actually regarded as one of the safer hats, just only tested in germany!

Anyhow, don't think they have the kitemark. Think I will e-mail BE with pics etc and see what they say.

Actually it just means that the hat manufacturer hasn't forked out to BSI yet and then are locked into paying their annual fee

My Casco is EN1384 - however its also German GS "kitemarked" by TUV

My understanding is that regardless of kitemarks or testing abroad, this standard is still lower than Snell which has the most rigorous testing of all the standards, these tests include the hat being tested right to the edge, most are tested to an inch or 2 above, & also a penetration test involving a metal spike being dropped onto the top of the hat. PAS also has more stringent tests.

Having seen the results of a serious head injury where the rider was wearing a hat with a PAS standard, anything less than Snell is a no go for me I'm afraid.
 
Fair enough Merlinsquest we respect your decision but its just that some manufacturers haven't used snell testing rather than them not being safe anyhow that's not the issue I was discussing.

I have e-mailed and spoken to BE today and it looks as though uvex may be manufacturing hats some with the BSI label and some without but they are waiting for Zebra products to confirm. I also asked about the casco and its the fact its not got the BSI. You can wear the hat in a FEI class just not a BE class! Just need to swap hats when you change classes.

It does happen with some of the brands apparantly.
