i got stopped by the police when bringing my trailer home today, the police couldnt find the serial no. i know it was on the a frame but policeman threatened to take trailer and crush it if i couldn't find it
is it on a plate that may have fallen off, or is it under the rust somewhere?
please help as i need the trailer to get neddy to vet

I had an old rice and the serial no. was near the hitch lock. Cant remember where but it was somewhere around there!! So you could look somewhere between the front of the trailer and the hitch!

If the police officer believes the trailer to be stolen property or has been used in crime he has a right to seize it. He can only keep the trailer for a reasonable time to make enquiries into the ownership.

He has no right to threaten crushing the trailer

Additionally there is no legal obligation for your trailer to have a serial number on it either. The Police Officer was talking out the back of his head. As long as your trailer isn't in a dangerous condition, the lights work on it & it carries the registration number of the towing vehicle you can continue to use it. If you are stopped again by the officer I would make a note of his number & complain in writing to the Force he works for regarding his conduct.
