i think this pic says it all - this was the cocker that was due to be PTS 4 months ago for aggression!

and these are his first picked birds on sat!

we still need to work on steadyiness for beating
smirk.gif
but if not he'll make one hell of a picking up dog - either way - he's a cracker

Brilliant, well done you for giving him a chance and thank goodness you found each other.
And congrats for turning him around so quickly

It is a amazing how many dogs get tossed out because they are naughty or disruptive - and how many of them are working breeds who were behaving like that because they just needed some stimulation and a job to do, and weren't getting the physical or mental exercise they needed.

thank you

he's our 3rd rescue to worker
smile.gif

1st was neglect case - a springer - he's semi-retired now but also worked his socks off on sat - he's also the most spoilt old man in the world but after the life he's had he deserves as much love as he can get

next was a beaten gun-shy lab - the old owner has been banned from keeping dogs now. took a year and a half and he's a fabulous working dog now - peg dog, beats and picks up!

then there's this new one
smile.gif

they'll be a forth after our hols in feb
wink.gif
prob another lab then as OH's more of a lab man and feels left out with my two spangles

Well done for giving them all a second chance, so nice that they have been re-homed and given a job they love. I always think it's a shame when certain breed rescues won't re-home to working homes.

He is a cracking wee Cocker too!
grin.gif
But really we need some pictures of the Springer too (and I guess the Lab

)

if you insist

here's the springer spangle and spabbadore on a camping trip a few months back

Brilliant PH - especially that little cocker picking a pigeon
smile.gif

I am really impressed at you having three rescue to worker dogs and they all look stunning.

I would be interested to know where you get them from as I will be looking for another springer myself once the house is done and some more kennels built

thanks guys

the springer was word of mouth -friend of a friend who'd heard his owners had emegrated and left him with someone and he'd then got passed pillar to post till he was left in a kennel for about 6months with no walks etc
frown.gif
he was in an awful state - no hair, mange, muscle wastage, aeting his own poop - you name it
frown.gif

the lab was actually through another yellow lab that advertised as a worker - OH went to see him and realised who the owner was (renound for beating his dogs) and saw this pathetic black skinny thing that was cowering in the corner and he couldnt walk away.
smirk.gif
so he took the black one much to the owners amazement as he'd said it's never make a working dog as too shy. now he's a little pickle
wink.gif

cocker was again word of mouth - friend in the scottish gamekeepers association called us saying there was a worker that needed a second chance - so we got him
laugh.gif

i did try to go through the springer spaniel rescue center.... but they kept making excuses about dogs they had..... and their attitudes to working dog owners was pretty apparent on their forum.... aparently we all abandon them when they can't work anymore
mad.gif
so gave up with them....

and yeah - we've been meaning to build a kennel for 2 yrs now lol!
smirk.gif
oh well - at least we have a good boot room for them!

That's the attitude I was talking about earlier, it's so sad that they won't allow the dog go to do a job it was bred for! Especially when there are people who work dogs wanting to rescue. So many Gundog people want a pup, you'd think the rescues would bite their hands off when someone comes calling for something slightly older!

I contacted Springer Rescue months ago offering to take one on but never ever heard from them!

Apparently as long as you don't tell them you are going to work the springer then you stand a better chance! Perhaps someone should remind them what springers are bred for!

In the last couple of weeks I have heard of a few dogs that need rehoming via word of mouth and knowing some of the homes they are coming from I wish I could take them all.

Roll on new kennels
