I am thinking of buying a mare by Va tout as a riding mare but also as a broodmare. Just wondered what people thought, as i have heard mixed reports about progeby and i don't want to be stuck with youngstock i can't sell.
I have owned a VaTout x TB(USA) mare for 6 years. She has fantastic movement and has produced a lovely filly this year. (I can PM pics of both if you want- the other posters on here have seen them before!) She is the chesnut in my avatar.
Sadly, a sick bxxxxxd stabbed her when she was 7 in her field which cut short her showing and dressage career but before this she had done very well.
If you want to see the sort of prices his progeny fetch I'd look at the UK Trakehner Fraternity site as there are a few brood mares by him at studs who are still producing foals. http://trakehnerbreeders.com/
Since having her I have heard that his progeny can be sharp and their temperament can be iffy. The only time she has shown any temperament issues has been when in season; when she is VERY marey. When in foal she turned back to the quiet laid back 4 year old I'd bought before the hormones kicked in.
I am delighted with her filly who has a very laid back attitude and is very correct.
Can't comment on other progeny as I don't know any but I'm sure Volatis will.
Hope this helps.
My mare is by Royal dance x Va Tout (Va Tout is her dams sire) She has a very good, kind temperament but can be quite sharp, she had her first foal this year who has taken her very good temperament but seems much less sharp and more laid back.
Both have lovely movement and conformation - I appriciate Va tout is a generation down with my mare but I thought it might help.
My Adv mare is by him. She was the best most genuine horse i have ever ridden, one in a million. And the most stunning.
She produced a loely filly by Jumbo this time andd is in foal again to my TB stallion.
Sharpest thing I've EVER sat on, Sometimes so spooky it could take me half an hour to get from the yard to the arena!
If a bird flew up 200 yards away she'd peg it.
They are renound for being difficult.. . . . . . even after 6 years she won't work at one end of our arena
Toffee is just the same. I thought she was being agrophobic! She has always found it difficult to go to new places and has very good flight and run action! It wasn't helped when she was stabbed though.
It is is really helpful to find out it's not just her.
I still wouldn't swap her for the world.
