I have just had to have a very elderly one PTS and my remaining one is really missing her, he hasn't been an only dog in the nearly 2 years he has been here and is very down. Ideally adult (any age, don't really mind veterans) and female, must be in need of rehoming, that's what I do. Preferably okay with cats and not the far end of the country from NE Shropshire.
So if you know anyone who for whatever reason (divorce, work commitments, ill health, going into care etc etc ) who needs to find a home for a beloved CKCS give me a shout. I have owned dogs for over 40 years, all rescues with baggage, and including two cavvies and various other spaniels so can guarantee it will be a good home, I care without anthropomorphising them. And I do keep in internet touch with former owners if they do the www.

Cayla from on here (Google the charity Adopt a Dog North East) has a tricolour dog in at the moment looking for a home - she always seems to have CKCS looking for homes!

How come there so many about L? on the basis that I thought they were relatively easy going dogs?

They generally are - wouldn't want one myself :p but they are lovely adaptable dogs that fit into many different sorts of homes :) Unfortunately the back yard breeders/puppy farmers caught on to that idea so hence supply can exceed demand :(

It is such a shame, yes they aren't my cup of tea but they really will be as sporting or as lap-dog as you want :) :)

And people obtain them without realising that they are dogs, not cuddly toys, needing training and exercise. They are offered for homes because of divorce, new jobs, more hours at work, kids with asthma, you name it, and even death of owners. The one I just lost and the one I still have came because of change of owners circumstances. Thanks Levrier, would appreciate hearing of any in this area that need a home.

www.dogsblog.com she was put on there today, 14months old..

Also a 2 year old and 7 year old male further down the page.

There's a very odd cross on the-dachshund X Labrador! They're calling him old at 7 or 8. I dunno if it's just having springers that makes me think that 7 or 8 is young, my 12 year old galloping round the field today didn't look old! There's also a beautiful English setter, I'm increasingly attracted to this breed.

Thank you for those - they are in Surrey/London though so really a bit far. I'll keep that site in mind though in case I haven't found any closer in the next few weeks

Just spotted that Hilbrae have an 8 year old CKCS in but it states not to go with male dogs or cats. :( They're a council/stray pound near Telford and seem to have them in reasonably frequently, their FB page is under 'Hilbrae Pets Hotel and Stray Kennels', might be worth keeping an eye out there.

I see them more as little sporting dogs and like to see mine hunt and scent. It's true they make a lovely placid family pet but we also see alot under exercised and hyper which creates behaviour issues imo.

Couldn't agree more, I know several who are treated more like children with clothes to wear and it does make me wince. That said I do know someone with health issues who maintains her cav pup saved her life, gave her a reason to get out of bed in the morning and goes everywhere with her - he has the temperament to do that.

Argggh - lovely Blenheim at Primchurch came back because new owners dog bullied him. So I went to see him and just got pipped by another lady who arrived at the same time. And quite by chance happened to speak to his breeder yesterday who said he is a lovely dog but original owners just didn't have the time. He was a beautiful happy cheerful little dog too - bah humbug. Still looking.
