Vaccinated horses (for tetanus)

If a horse has been correctly vaccinated for tetanus & that vaccination cover maintained, can they still contract it?

Reason for asking is that a 7 year old 14.2 jumping mare belonging to friends of mine was pts yesterday because of showing classic clinical signs of this cruel illness. The owner is only 17 and is totally devastated. Anyone know of another case?

I don't know the answer but I would have thought there is still a chance of getting ill even if vaccinated against it! I don't think anything is 100%

A horse I sold some years ago died of tetanus, she had been vaccinated correctly all of her life.
I also heard of one that recovered from one bout then contracted it a few years later, again it was properly vaccinated, sometimes vaccination does not prevent a disease taking hold, other people get away without vaccinating and the horses are fine.

Your young friend will obviously be devastated it must a horrific illness to watch the horse succumb to, all you can do is offer support as she had done all she could to prevent it.

Friends horse also had the same despite being fully vacinated his whole life.

Apparantly it's is very uncommon, but not impossible.
