I will speak to my vet in due course but wondered if you could shed any light?

My new colt has had a Tetnus jab in January and Feb this year (so start of the course I presume), when does he need the next one?

He has not been vaccinated for flu at the same time, does this have to be administered as a course like the Tetnus or is it just once a year jab?

I normally get the flu/tet done when starting/re-starting vacs, but then mine is ridden and competed. I'm guessing from your post he's a youngster and therefore won't really be coming into contact with horses other than your own, so would think tetanus is fine for now if your others are done for flu?

If yours was done Jan and Feb he'll need doing again in Aug.

Your colt has had the primary course, he will need a booster in 12 months, so Feb next year and thereafter he will need a tetanus booster every 2 years.

How old is the colt? Not sure if he is now fully covered for tetanus, once they are covered you only need to do it every other year. Suggest you also get him done for flu you have to have the first two before they are properly covered 21 - 90 days between the first and second and then 150 - 215 days between the second and third. We always do our foals with the first flu/tet jab before we wean them then they have their second one before the end of their first year. All the foals are jabbed for tetanus within 48 hours of being born in my book it is not worth risking them and at least we know they are covered.

He needs the next vaccination between 150 and 215 days after the last one and from then on yearly.

that's the rules for flu, not tetanus.

tetanus is just 2 jabs 4-6wks apart then a booster after 1yr then every 2yrs after that.

flu is 1st inj, 21-92days, 2nd inj, 150-215days, 3rd inj then yearly boosters.

Colt was a year old in May.

Thank you Star that makes sense, looks like I will need the vet out to do the course of flu then, I was hoping it was just one jab for flu!!!!!

I brought my 2yr old in feb and he hadn't had anything. I had his first two tetnus jabs about 5 weeks apart as the vet recommended and he will then have another next year. He's not leaving the yard apart to go for a walk in hand down the road so I havn't bothered with flu.
