Is your horse due his/her annual vaccinations?!
Don't let them get out of date...I speak from experience...you only do that once.

Missed one by 3 days a couple of years ago - vet only noticed once he had completed the passport - so back to square one - an expensive mistake to make .... Partly vets fault I must add, they had to cancel the original appointment I had made due to an emergency and the next appointment we could make was too late so they didn't charge me the call out for the 6 week and 6 month booster!

Excuse me for being a numpty, but this is the first full year I have owned my own horse and do you really have to start back at square one with the vacs if you go over by a day?!?!

Mine was vaccinated in Germany last November and was hoping to just pick up from where they left off, but didn't realise it was a to-the-day thing!

Zalacca - PMSL! Thought you were just being really anal about it to-the-day, until I read everyone elses replies!

Doh! Am such a dumb ass.

Can you remind me @ the beginning of April please?! I forgot a couple of years ago, when on a random holiday and missed the date...WILL NEVER DO IT AGAIN! 4 horses cost ALLOT to start again! (cost more than my holiday in the end!) lol

chickeninabun; yes its true! To be far I don't think it does the horses any harm but if your competing & you get checked out they will very poss chuck you off the show ground if the dates don't add up!

I was literally sitting here looking at my companion ponys passport.... the bl***y vaccine is 10 days late

And I have no one to blame - its all my fault

A vaccine against disorganisedness would be highly appreciated

silas again please remind me next year,. (you will be alive even if in spirit)

Maybe this could be useful for some of you - especially those of you who have horses who are just starting a course of tet/flu.

1st jab on buying (or when foal about 6 months old).

2nd jab gets done 21-92 days after the 1st jab.

3rd jab gets done 150-215 days after the 2nd jab and then that completes your course, ready to be done on an annual basis then.

Why are you stressing about a companion pony's vac being 10 days late? If he isn't competing, then you can choose the interlude between vacs yourself! My pony is kept with one other and doesn't go to shows, so is tet only, every 3 years. Your vet should be fine with that or with flu/tet if you want to do both. Can't imagine a yard owner being too fussy over a few days, either.

However, a disorganisation vaccine would be appreciated here, too!

Same here: I've been 2-3 weeks over and vet hasn't thought necessary to start again, companion pony is fine with tet every 3 years or whatever it is cos he never leaves his field. BUT I don't exactly do the sort of comps where they check your passport!

Unless you are using said pony as a travelling companion, in which case at some Riding Club venues, they won't let you on the premises without a valid flu vac'd passport.

If you use Mozilla Firefox, you can download a very handy reminder/organiser extension thing that sits on the taskbar and alerts you to anything due. It's called Reminder Fox and as long as I have filed it all onto it beforehand, it doesn't let me forget a thing. From the site:

ReminderFox displays and manages lists of date-based reminders and ToDo's. ReminderFox does not seek to be a full-fledged calendar. In fact, the target audience is anybody that simply wants to remember important dates (birthdays, anniversaries, bills, etc) without having to run a whole calendar application. ReminderFox makes sure you remember all of your important dates via easy-to-use lists, alerts, and alarm notifications.

Don't know if this will work -

I've got too many damn horses these days I can't keep up with remembering them all. Thanks for the reminder, can you possibly do another around the end of October?

Due in May 2009. Vaccinations are something I don't forget - unlike many other things!

Vets don't send us reminders.
