vaccinations and laminitis?

Does anyone else have any experience of a flu and tet vaccination bringing on a bout of laminitis?

It really has only just dawned on me that this could be the issue with my shetland. I had put it down to the spring grass coming through, but he literally went from gallopping around the field to very pottery over the space of a couple of days after he had his vaccinations. And i make sure i am alert to the signs and take precautions at the first sign of him not looking happy on his feet.

He is much improved now after being muzzled, and given a bute. But i am questioning whether the vaccinations are playing their part and what his options will be for next year.
 
I am very very careful with my cushings horse. I only do tetanus. I do it in the best time of the year ie mid winter when laminitis is least likely and I only do it every 3 years. Vet agreed we could stretch to this. He did however have a vacination history of being tetanused from birth so is well covered.

It may be coincidence if he got laminitis immediately afterwards but I would take it very seriously and plan carefully. Perhaps taking him off grass completely for a few days. I doubt you will ever get a definite answer but you cannot be too careful.
 
Also only do Tetanus with a Cushings lady. Advised by old vet and new vet had no problem to do so when moved up here. She never leaves the yard and all other horses are show horses so are vaccinated for both. I just keep everything as hygienic as possible!
 
My horse is prone to getting very footy after vaccination, it basically turns their immune system on its head and I have learnt to leave a 3 week window between vaccination and any form of high stress work or competition so that I'm not asking too much of their system shortly afterwards.
 
I had a mare with EMS and during the 2 two years while she was on box rest I didnt renew her jabs as 2 months prior to the her first episode she had had them and her Tetunus was the two year one

When she was allowed to be turned out I thought long and hard about getting them updated , I asked the vet and she said she thought that there wouldn't be a problem so I had them done, I really wish I had listened to my inner voice, within 2 days she was laying down and she had never done that the whole time, and three days later she was pts, her pedal bone had dropped through her sole. I blame the vaccination and after the shock had worn off a bit I put 2 and 2 together and that was the only thing that had changed and it brought on the worst episode that she had ever had.

We had managed to kept this under control for two years to the point of her insulin being back in normal range ans her feet were back to normal, after 8 degrees of rotation.

Needless to say I was gutted and to that end I do worry an awful lot about vaccinating my other two and I would err on the side of caution with any laminitic horse in the future.
