I *think* tet is yearly & flu is every other year, but I might well have it the wrong way round. The vet just checks the cert each year to make sure we're doing the right one.
Over here, its a joint vaccination which you now have to have every 6months due to S.J.A.I rules, vets say its not necessary that often and yearly was fine before hand.
my passport says flu is done yearly but can not see tetanus in it. it is an fei passport. it says my mare was having EHV1,4 every 6 months i assume that is herpes???
yip me too flu is yearly tet is every other year, although fizz can not get the flu jag as she gets really ill with it so we are looking into what else we can do
after the initial 'set up' phase then the tetanus is necessary for protection at least every other year but given yearly and the flu is now required under FEI rules every six months. i went to a seminar on why the period has been reduced because i really dont like the idea of all these injections. They came up with some theory that at the end of the yearly period there could be some reduction in cover. Seems like the drug companies are making more bucks to me.
Under BD rules flu vac are now no longer required but many venues require you to have the latest FEI ruling. That includes many show grounds ,race coarses and Stoneleigh.
i am more puzzled now. i am looking at passport under vacc record it says equine influenza i have a yearly dose of duvaxyn ie plus . is this tet and flu together
to confirm those who have got it right, flu is given every year. Tetanus may be given every other year if using Duvaxyn or Protec etc or every 3 years if using Equip. If competing under FEI rules, flu must be done every 6months.
