Vaccs - how long between jabs?

Look into the dangers of vaccination before doing this - I know this will cause an uproar! It makes lots of money for the drug companies and vets! Read what it's doing to humans and animals!
As you will gather I am not a fan of vaccines.
My Grandfather's horses were never vaccinated and neither was he and he lived into his mid 90's!
I have read that vaccinated horses die earlier than unvaccinated ones too.

Ask your vet but from memory it is a couple of weeks between 1 and 2 and then a few months between 2 and 3 and then every year after that ;)

As for not vaccinating - that generally isn't acceptable if you want to compete these days unless you have a veterinary reason for it - my friends horse can't be vaccinated as he has such severe reactions to the vaccines so he has his passport stamped.

That is soooo unfair, not being able to compete unless your horse is vaccinated as it forces people to do it. Again it's pressure from the top as the drug companies advise the vets and so on.....
I can understand the horses at the top level competing abroad because of rabies having to be vaccinated, but that's another issue but as for the rest of us who stay in this country, no! A horse could be vaccinated but be poorly looked after and be very ill; the vaccines would not help that horse. Yet another horse like mine can be un-vaccinated truly loved and well cared for with a healthy, uncompomised immune system!!
We all need to wise up!
Just wanted to plant that seed of doubt.......

Just curious but how horses have you seen with tetanus? I've seen horses with it and it is the best advertisement for vaccination I have ever seen.
These are preventable diseases you are talking about why wouldnt you want to prevent them when its so easy?

My family also grew up with horses who were unvaccinated, sure most were healthy as they lived a good lifestyle, but they can also tell me stories of the animals they lost to preventable diseases that we are lucky enough to be able to vaccinate against now... like tetanus! My grandmother also lost 2 siblings to TB as there was no vaccine then she was just lucky enough not to contract it. looking at virus's like Smallpox in people.parvo, distemper in dogs etc....these diseases are either nearly eradicated or controlled due to vaccination...its not exactly a scam. Hell the reason parvo and distemper etc was never wiped out was thanks to the irresponsible people who will not vaccinated against them and continue the deadly cycle of infection within the population. There is more than enough evidence to show that vaccination in general is a good idea.

Yes its a pity that the exact timeframes are so strict when it comes to vaccinations and in an ideal world we would all be able to titre test and see that each horse has enough immunity against certain disease's and vaccinated accordingly.....but thats not possible at the moment and even in dogs it can be prohibitively expensive in many cases.

The risk of adverse effects are quite low and very very few adverse effects of vaccination are life threatening. The vast majority of horses are fine with vaccination and even those who are unfortunate enough to get a reaction generally have symptoms that are much less severe than those caused by the diseases vaccinated against.

Vaccines also only offer some protection against a specific set of bacteria/virus' and work by stimulating a healthy immune system into producing its own response to fight off those infections in the future...so i dont understand your ill poorly looked after horse versus unvaccinated horse comment at all..... as long as the poorly looked after horse was healthy when vaccinated they would not as ill or even ill at all, compared to an unvaccinated horse as their body would already have the upperhand on fighting off those infections thanks to their vaccinations.

answering the question without getting into a debate about the rights and wrongs...
2nd vac needs to be between 21 and 92 days of the first one, the 3rd needs to be between 150 and 215 days of the second one.
then every 365 days after that - beware of leap years...
These are riding club vac rules.

second vac to be given between 21 and 92 days after the first.
First booster to be given between 150 and 215 days after the second.
Annual boosters to be given on or before the date of the second vac.

Like Aru I have seen horses with tetanus and seen them have to pts as a result. It is really horrible and after that I would not want to risk not vaccinating.

As some one who is getting over mumps :( I advise every one to get themselves and animals vaccinated , my doctor had never seen mumps before me, and today he said he has had 12 more!!!

VACCINATE

My adult daughter had mumps last year even though she'd been vaccinated as a child.
