Is there a gap after a year where you still count as continuous? Pen was due last week - me bad - and I really can't take her this week, but will make time if it is critical.
I did try to phone the vets but was left on hold so gave up, then they closed...oops!

Vets (and big comps etc) will require it be done on or before the date it was last done. So in this case you will need to redo the Flu jab set..tet can be every 2 years i believe.

If they insist on that I probably won't bother! I am undecided about jabs anyway. She will never go anywhere that they need to be checked.

But is lepto (l4) still only viable for 6 months?

I have let all of mine lapse. They don’t go near other dogs, but the swimming concerns me re lepto. Hale and hearty, however, after 5 years of no vaccines.

THank you all. Phew! I am sure the vet only said lepto nnually with Tawny last year. I let them lapse too, CT, but Pen is only 14 months so I would normally give the first few boosters.

Most are on a schedule now of Lepto annually (relative poor immunity after 8 months so try time it to cover the shoot season!) and then Distemper, Parvo etc every three years. Or you could titre test to check the immunity she has already is sufficent

anyone who lets them lapse should be titre testing. just letting them lapse is playing russian roulette

SusieT, I see you have come back on AAD, I am sure you had just forgotten to apologise to Jennbags for the malicious *******s you sprouted on her thread?

Mine get the 1st two puppy shots & a booster at 12 months. As titre test costs have fallen, my last two have been tested around two weeks after the booster, both showing antibody counts which infers that the vaccine has done it's job, they have immunity. They won't be getting any more boosters. I don't vaccinate against Lepto as I live in a very low risk area.

Titre testing doesn't show the whole story as it only tests one part of the very complicated immune system, antibodies will only have a high count during, or just after, an infection. Once that infection has been defeated the body will cease production of antibodies, it's a waste of resources if there's nothing to fight. As such the antibody count will wane naturally over time.

A low count in a Titre test doesn't mean that immunity has worn off & your dog needs a booster, the body remembers how to fight an infection once immunised & the response to a recognised Antigen is very quick. This memory lasts for years, maybe for life.

You can’t titre test for lepto (the annual). The 3 yearly DHP for a dog over 10 weeks only needs one jab to be at full strength. I can’t see much benefit of titre testing as it doesn’t change what you do? Unless you’re considering not vaccinating as the alternative to restarting the lapsed vax.
