My Vaccuum has given up the ghost and I need a new one pronto.
The problem is

DOG HAIR

And I mean dog hair in bags full. Monty seems to lose hair like I don't know what. I brush him every day as soon as he is dry from the walk.
Anyway I need a vaccuum that will cope with loads of dog hair please.
what do you peeps use?

Dyson Animal - it has only failed me once, after nearly a year of twice-daily use, but Dyson customer service is excellent, the very next day a nice man came and extracted a solid ball of husky hair from one of the pipes and made it good as new. :p

I've got one of these http://www.miele.co.uk/vacuum-cleaners/s5/catanddogturbo5000-76/ and I would definitely recommend them - ok I only have short haired dogs but boy does the russell moult (white hairs on a dark carpet show up ridiculously badly :()!! And I also use it to vacuum the farm office which has a selection of 5 plus dogs and umpteen muddy wellies trooping in and out all day and it doesn't ever struggle thankfully because I hate housework and do as little as possible :o

BTW does anyone else keep their horses / dogs in immaculate conditions then come home to a pig sty? or is that just me? :o :D

ditto the dyson animal, I have had mine 4 yrs now I think and it gets a right bashing in this house! Its very good!

Hoover uprite Hurricane (pet) is what I have just bought in the Jan sales in Curries, 69.99. I seem to fill up the thingy (bagless) quickly but then boyfriend has admitted house hasnt been hoovered for a year (works on a farm, dogs.... yess the house needed a lady about). Very impressed but then only had it three weeks.

I brought a vax centrix pet 2 hoover from Argos in their sale halfprice for £45. It had rave reviews and I must say having 5 cats and a dog it's brilliant with all the pet hair, cleans right to the edges and has numerous tools on board including a turbo brush. The only drawback is that you have to put it together, though that doesn't take long.

mmmmmmmm. Lots of food for thought here. Thanks for the tips.
Which is easy to empty/holds the most/ has good attachments.
I have both carpet and wood floors so need to be able to do both, and stairs too.

The vax one has loads of tools and works well on both wooden floors and carpet. I also have both types. I used to have a dyson but actually so far I'm finding the vax is actually better!

The verson of the Dyson I have is very easy to empty (I wouldnt do it if it wasn't :p) but it is a hell of a chunky thing to faff about with on stairs.

So I dont do stairs, OH does and the cleaner does when she turns up.

We have nly ever had Dysons when I have been growin up so I find it very easy to operate / change attachments on.

The dysons do come in a smaller size which would be easier for stairs and my mum uses hers on the wooden floor with no problems. She does sweep the floor a couple of times a day to get any big clumps of hair up (apparently wetting the brush slightly helps?!) to limit the amount of times she needs to hoover.

This thread just inspired me to empty the hoover (OH never does it) and I dont know where it is.

My OH has been away for over a week and I have no idea where the hell my hoover actually lives.

I am SUCH a good housewife :p

I have a Dyson too - although it's not an 'Animal'. I bought it off eBay.

I went through several different vacuum cleaners - a Hoover, a Vax, a couple of others that I can't even remember - before I gave up and bought a Dyson. Best thing I ever did.

My tube is long enough to reach up the stairs so you don't have to balance it on a step, easy to empty, selection of tools.

Up until a month ago I had an inuit who moulted in bagfuls - coped with her alright.

You peeps are all really helpful--thank you. The information you have given is brilliant.
I now at least have a short list so will go and look at these over the weekend. from what you have said, it sounds as though the Dyson may be a bit too expensive, but I will certainly look at all.
Thank you again

Our spaniel fur killed the dyson :( we have a vax with the turbo brush as a replacement as we compared them and it has a more powerful motor....it's bloody noisy but this is in fact a benefit as you know it's powerful and it scares said spangles out of the way so you can clean in peace!!

Our dyson has been rubbish! It can't cope at all with two labs. If my husband hadn't been a mechanic, who can strip it and unblock it regularly it would have been long gone! Our old Henry used to cope with a German Shep easily.

We are about to renavate our house, and knock through into next door, and I plan to have a big storage cupboard at the top of the stairs, as well as a utility downstairs - so the plan is to have two hoovers, so I don't have to lug it up and down any more!

Having said that, I am definately one of those whose stable yards are far far cleaner than the kitchen fllor - probably the table too!:o

I have the Dyson Allergy - becasue it was on offer on in Tesco's and had about £100 off making it cheaper then the others!!:D:D

It copes well with the labrador hair as well as mud, hay, shavings etc etc on both carpets and lino floors - my hall would have fur trimmed sides otherwise!! just as well as I am a lazy slut when it comes to housework and only do it once a week!!

I have one of the standard Vax wet / dry vacum cleaner, like the big drum on wheels. Nothing fancy but it is going on 7 years old and has been practically indestructable (so far touch wood). Strong suction so it grabs hairs in the most awkward of places. And we do have ALOT of hair - many borzoi, especially when one of the bitches is blowing her coat! So much it warrants daily use normally.

It has outlasted 3 others my husband bought in the meantime thinking newer technology would be better - Vax Animal / Hoover / Dyson and none of those was capable of coping with tumbleweeds of borzoi hair drifting around the house.

After many years of having on avarage 13 animals in the house as well as a teenager, and having to vacuum at least once every day, I have become something of an expert on this!!:D
I have worked my way through four dysons - the only one that lasted the test of time was the original DC01, that I kept as a spare but finally conked out last year. Have previously tried to get them fixed under the guarantee, only to be told that they are not designed to cope with my level of use, so lesson learned here is never tell them how many animals you've got!!!
I've had a vax, 3 x electrolux, a morphy richards (awful!), and a couple of others I can't remember the name of, but my latest one is so far the best I've had. Its the Hoover Hurricane 2000w. First time I used it, it looked like I was painting the carpet it came up so clean! Makes what used to be a daily mission a doddle.

miele cat & dog. We have three labs, two cats and often the odd chicken or lamb in the house so lots of mess and hair, the miele is excellent on both the hard flooring and rugs.
