Vaccuum cleaner recommendations please

I have two springer spaniel's and i find the Miele cat and dod to be the best - This is on a hard floor rather than carpet if that makes a difference? The only thing I find a problem is the bags being so expensive. I tend to buy them from either Vacuum World , ebay or amazon. Miele Vacuum Bags

Thanks everyone for your input.
I'm going shopping for one in the next few days. I'm going to be the world's worst customer, I think, 'cos I'm going to ask loads of questions, try different vaccs for weight, manouverability and look at the attachments that come with each one.
Will let you know the winning purchase when I have tested it.

I wanted a Dyson because all the short dog hairs get stuck in the carpet and my current hoover lacks in the 'suck' department (say nothing!). Then I looked at my bank balance. I looked at the size of my house. Then I bought a yard brush. Job done!
