I am interested to know how many people vaccinate. If you just choose to do Tet or not bother at all. My reason for asking is that not one horse I have every purchased, had, either never vaccinated, that includes a rising 5yr old bought from her breeders, or the vaccinations had been allowed to lapse. Having seen a horse PTS due to Lockjaw I would never gamble with my horses life. So if you dont vaccinate what are your reasons for not doing so?

All my horses are vaccinated against Tetanus and Rabies. All were up to date on vaccinations when I bought them. Some were also vaccinated against WNV and EEC however I don't follow up with those vaccinations, Tet is the most important to me and I would never risk it.....or rabies.

Vaccinate every year for both flu and tet. I know, in theory, you only need to vaccinate against tetanus every other year but the difference in cost in minimal and I know that if anything does happen then the tetanus vacc is completely up to date.

It is interesting that the % is higher for vaccinated animals, but so is that for people buying horses/ponies who have either never been vaccinated or have been allowed to lapse. As I said out of the 10 horses bought over the years only 2 had any vaccination history. You would think with the high risk of Tet that this would be a must. Perhaps a few of my horses ex owners should see the effects of not vaccinating. Thanks for those that filled in.
