As per the title really. My yard get cross if we leave all our rugs out all the time looking untidy and I seem to have accumulated a lot of extra rugs this winter.

I have one heavyweight turn out with a neck plus a medium weight and light weight stable rug plus maybe a fleece or two to store over the summer. 6"6.

Anyone used these vacuum bags and what size do I need to order?

Choccy biccies for anyone that can help.

I've got a thermatex into a 50x70 cm bag with careful folding but my HW rugs would need a bigger bag. You do need a bit of extra space in the bag to get the ziplock closure to do up properly before you vacuum it :)

Oh, and I find it easier to have LWs in their own bags because it's less annoying to unpack if you might want to use them in the middle of the season ;)

Could you not get some big clear plastic boxes tht you can store them in and stack them to keep it all tidy? If not I would go for the duvet vacuum bags.

I found some vacuum bags in the linen section of a French shop, I bought the size for a double bed quilt.

However, with 14 horses and quite a few spare rugs!!!!, I have found the IKEA plastic sacks with handles the best. The are double zipped and have two handles. I can get 2 MASTA or 3 Amigo in each bag. They are not vacuum sacks though.

I also wash my own rugs in an old bath in the yard. sit the outlet over a drain, put in a mix of hot and cold water with NIK Tech Wash, soak over night, rinse and hose then hang over the gate to dry.

I just need to take up as little room as possible as they will have to come home ...and with all me and my OH's "other" hobbies and interests (skiing, scuba diving, mountainbiking, etc.) We have a house full of stuff!

Vacuum storage is your friend then :D also stops any horsey-whiffs escaping if they aren't spotless when you put them away ;)

Vacuum storage bags are great but ideally you should opt for the more expensive ones as the cheap ones tend to be used only once or twice before they fail.

I use bags that duvets/pillows come in they seem to be the perfect size and they often have a lithe window where you can add a bit of paper on, I label all my rugs and they each have a said bag. You will probably be able to find some on ebay, if all else fails tell everyone you know to donate their bags the next time they buy a new quilt/pillow - that's what I did :D

Beware of vacuum bags- my only foray into this world was a complete waste of money! I bought 2 from Dunelm for storing spare duvets etc. First problem, my vacuum is a Dyson and therefore it's hose was too wide for the fitting on the bag. I resolved this by fitting a toilet roll :) into the nozzle to resize. So I managed to suck most of the air out of one bag. However the other bag already had a small hole in it so it I had to bin it as couldn't suck the air out even with Sellotape repair and toilet roll adapter...!

My advice is to get your rugs cleaned professionally in the spring and they come back beautifully folded into as small a volume as you would get vacuum packing!

Yeah you do really get what you pay for.

I use the extra large spacebag ones as they are very durable but they do cost more than most.

Cheapest I found online was these - http://www.vacuumstorage.co.uk/product/space-bage-extra-large/
