At last, a report to post because OH was away with "the boys" skiing so I was off Hunting Duty.
I took Lucca (OH's hunter) to do PN111 and 1m SJ, and HumungaHorse to do N120 and 1.10m SJ, our first outing this season. Lucca was Mr Laidback, he moves really well and just curls up a bit when he's tense, so I was chuffed to get sevens pretty much the whole way through his test to get a 30. Pity he spoilt it by having two down sj but good on him for being very straightforward and un-spooky, but my steering was sh**te and our canter felt a bit flat. All in all it was a good fact-finding exercise as he'll be doing PN at Oasby in - gulp - 8 weeks.
On to HumungaHorse who, in his normal style, was massively over-excited about going to a party. We bounced round the warm-up, squeaking and squealing. In the test when we came across the diagonal to do a simple change through trot he said"I know I know, we're doing flying changes!", did one, was grumpy when I corrected him, then in the final halt - and this is my fault for having taught him another trick (albeit to counteract his desire to p*** off after a fence) - he did a rein back. That was SO not what the judge wanted so quite rightly I got a 4, and I completely agreed with her 5 for submission. He got 40.5 btw
We went in to jump and whilst he jumped clear, there were a few too many "yee-ha" moments for my liking. However, last year he would have yee-ha'd and had 3 down, so it's an improvement but still not quite as I'd like it. Oh well, 8 weeks to sort him out too.
Bizarrely HumungaHorse was 2nd and won me a fiver and LaidbackLucca was 5th.
