On the Olympia commentary they are discussing a syndicate to keep Valegro for Charlotte.

I wonder how small a contribution would be acceptable to join a Valegro syndicate??

I could probably afford a chestnut (near fore if I get a choice) :D :D

Yes if I won the lottery I'd buy Valegro so Charlotte could keep the ride. They are such a brilliant combination :D

One of us might win - fingers crossed

The sindicate happening.
Pledges from £1 to his value of £12000000
He will stay with charlotte for life so get digging in those pockets!

H&H states they're looking to keep the syndicate small so £250,000 would be minimum to buy in.

i'll just go and see what's in my penny jar...

Happening here on facebook http://www.facebook.com/ValegroSyndicatePage
I have to admit that if there was an electronic way to pay with a running total and some genuine "names" behind this I would happily donate a little. For now I will keep an eye to see how it goes. I really hope it is genuine and that it is successful :D

So you're happy to send an unassigned cheque or cash through the post to an unknown person on the say so of a facebook page with no official status and which is full of spelling mistakes. I just hope their solictor (sic) is genuine:D

No. I havent donated yet.
I'm waiting for the electronic payment to be set up.

I'm no fool. I won't donate to anyone.
But what I do donate won't be a huge amount so u can afford to loose it if I an scammed!

I think it's all a bit ridiculous if im honest. Horses get sold, just like Totilas was, and how Uthopia will be. He will not be top dog for ever, a better horse will come along. Sad to see him leave Charlotte but not enough to donate my hard earned money so that she can still get to ride him and progress in her career. This is not a charity case, it is a typical sale of a top horse.

Assuming i will get a good *******ing now off some of you :D

I have to agree, Plus if the owner cared he would let Charlotte carry on with the ride rather than sell.

It's not a syndicate, it's a request for donations. So provided you don't mind donating that's fine. If you think you'll own a piece of him then you'll be disappointed.

I honestly think that this could have been rather better thought through to be honest, even assuming the FB page is genuine. If the FB page is to raise donations to help Charlotte buy the horse then fair enough, but they do not say how much they want by way of donation. I cannot realistically see them collecting £6m in donations - £1m maybe.

Collecting donations is rather different to trying to assemble a syndicate of people who have £250k to purchase a share in the horse, and its all very unclear who is trying to do what and how it fits together. It is unlikely anyone is going to donate that kind of money so they will expect a share in the horse and some rights over what is done with him. They may also want the horse vetted etc. There is also the question of what he is worth - £6-12m is just IMO insanely inflated - he is a gelding and with the passage of time will therefore become worthless, and unless the plan is to sell him in future there is no commercial incentive whatsoever to own him - his value is likely to go down and not up as he gets older and potentially suffers lameness or other issues in the way that horses do. So how realistic is is to find people with £250k going spare to buy a horse as a charitable gesture, get no charitable tax relief on it and and lose money on it pretty much guaranteed?

Lastly, nothing is worth more than what someone will pay, and to date noone has ponied up the £6m alleged asking price - which suggests the price has got to come down.

To be frank, if Carl and Rowena L would agree to sell for a smaller sum it would be realistic for Charlotte to collect that from donations and that might be a viable solution, but at the moment this all just seems rather half baked.

The very fact that no-one has bought him after the Olympics would seem to suggest that the asking price is too high. Totilas was reportedly sold for €5 million (aprox £4 million), BUT he is a stallion with potentially high earnings from stud fees. And we all know how the dream of buying a ready-made super competition horse has worked out for poor old Mathias, despite all the money.................

this.

i think some people are getting a tad confused. £1+ doesnt buy you a share it goes to charlotte to buy the horse for herself, or at least as much of a share of it as she can afford.
i wonder if Charlotte will be adding to the pot by selling a few of her youngsters to go towards buying Valegro too or waiting to see how much the horse loving public will cough up for her so she doesn't have to. :D

i *THINK* i heard that owners were prepared to accept 2.5ml for him IF he stayed with Charlotte.

If the owners prefer the cash to the satisfaction of seeing Charlotte ride him then that's their business. But if they won't keep the pair together why would the public.
Bonkers idea, and as someone else said, the asking price is pure fantasy for a gelding, however good he is.

Urm, could someone explain to me why, exactly, we should all chip in to buy a very expensive horse and GIVE it to Charlotte DuJardin?
