Valegro Syndicate

Urm, could someone explain to me why, exactly, we should all chip in to buy a very expensive horse and GIVE it to Charlotte DuJardin?

Assuming we've all got anything left after donating to a flooded riding school and its associated business interests that may or may not be masquerading as a charity and whose owners failed to make sufficient arrangements, although they were aware a week in advance that they would be flooded!

Personally, I think it's a nice idea. Afaik the fb page was only set up 20 hours ago, yes there is a lot of spelling mistakes, yes it's not entirely clear how it is all going to work but it's a start albeit small. You've only got to look at the report in last weeks HH regarding an event rider who's top horse was put up for sale and a fb page started to keep them together. They raised 40k and the horse will now stay with it's current rider. Sure we are talking A LOT more here but I for one would love to see the partnership stay together and will be putting a tenner in once there is a little more verification and an electronic means of payment.

Those who donate may not officially own a percentage of Valegro, however i'm sure that if this does amount to anything it will be well known that thousands/millions of people around the world chipped in just a little to ensure he stayed with Charlotte.

I think it's all a bit ridiculous if im honest. Horses get sold, just like Totilas was, and how Uthopia will be. He will not be top dog for ever, a better horse will come along. Sad to see him leave Charlotte but not enough to donate my hard earned money so that she can still get to ride him and progress in her career. This is not a charity case, it is a typical sale of a top horse.

Assuming i will get a good *******ing now off some of you :D

Agree with this entirely. Personally if I won the lottery I would be buying a horse for Carl if he wanted one, as he is a better rider :p:D:D

Latest is in this weeks mag. Only people with a contribution of £250,000 and £500,000 need apply;)

If I won the lottery I would buy him, take his shoes off, feed him on herbs and pay Phillippe Karl to train us.... la la land....

A lot of supposition and speculation going on here as usual. It’s not a syndicate in the usual horsey meaning, like a bunch of sooner’s wanting to buy a race horse. This is just asking for donations to buy the horse. The asking price is a matter of a lot of exaggeration as well by the look of it. I think I’ll send a few quid in though.

I agree with nobs on. If they want to keep him, just do so. They aren't in need.

The horse is worth 12 million Carl and current owner are willing to drop the price to 2.5 million for the horse to stay with Charlotte! They have worked out that with his fan base if generally everyone could donate they can raise the money were only talking £50 I would donate that to see the horse and rider combination that won us gold medals and put dressage on the map stay together! Why shouldn't Great Britain get to keep one super star horse instead of the rich Germans always buying them and constantly beating us!!

Someone asked why Carl doesn't keep his share so the money needed to keep Charlotte riding would be less.

Because carls not daft. The horse is a gelding at the top of his game. There is only one way to go now, he will age and a better horse will come along. Sell him now before that happens. The man has his business head on securely.
If they can get romantic Joe public to put millions in their bank and still keep the horse it will be pure genius. Nice one Carl.

The horse is worth 12 million Not really, the horse is worth what someone is willing to pay for it Carl and current owner are willing to drop the price to 2.5 million Yup, that's a lot more reasonablefor the horse to stay with Charlotte! There goes the deal breaker againThey have worked out that with his fan base if generally everyone could donate they can raise the money were only talking £50 I would donate that to see the horse and rider combination that won us gold medals and put dressage on the map stay together! Why shouldn't Great Britain get to keep one super star horse instead of the rich Germans always buying them and constantly beating us!!Possibly because the horse's owners got to be in a position to own such a horse by being astute business people. As astute business people they are looking to capitalise on their investment. So if they can persuade loads of poorer people to each give the rich people £50 so that they still have the horse and have loads of donated money they are really onto a winner
I am in awe of the business brains behind this one:D

I agree it's very clever but I'm an old romantic and think it be lovely if Great Britain could step up and pull this off for the feel good factor ;-)

its not a syndicate - its just a donation...

i for one will not be chipping in.........another way to get money of or us to fund them and we get nothing in return

And I have to agree with the comment about Charlotte selling one of her youngsters if it is that important to them. Surely they are hedging their bets, considering they just purchased a top lot at a recent sale for a sum in excess of £30k.

Whilst I think they have done wonders for publicising the sport I feel that the horse is now limited in his investment potential, he is gelded and has reached the top of his game so any future rider would be judged against his previous performances. This in itself would limit the market. IMO he could only go to some fabulously wealthy billionaire for whom money is no object and the asking price is pocket change, but who wants to treat his precious daughter to the best LOL!

tbh, however good the intentions of the page admin are, for all the flowery language used, complete lack of insight that has gone in to them putting this page out live without giving much if any thought of how it will work or indeed approaching Carl or Charlotte (who has remained a little suspiciously quiet although she is apparently 'away') to find out at least how MUCH money is needed -the admins have no idea - im guessing the admin are probably two 14 yr old school girls

My thoughts as well. To be fair although they have both done a fabulous PR job for dressage in Britain, quite honestly why on earth should the public donate its hard earned cash, in the middle of a bloody recession so that Charlotte Dujardin can keep this horse? I actually am personally in awe of her achievements and what can be achieved through hard work and he is a beautiful horse, but come on, there are much more deserving recipients for donations. What about the homeless, starving, sick, cancer research, needy etc.

Sorry Charlotte, you are a lovely girl I am sure but if you want to keep him, think of the old saying, where there is a will, there is a way, and if you really, really want to keep him, you will find a way.
