hey, my horse is a really fussy eater and turns his nose up at most things. what doesnt help is e is a nervous horse as well so have tried all calming supplements going and was recommend valerian cordial but i dont have a clue what to mix it with as in summer he has no hard feed and lives out 24/7.

does anyone have any ideas on what i can mix it in with ?

thankyou

You could make up a small feed with a few nuts, chaf & possibly a little apple juice in it to make it more acceptable for your horse & hide the valerian.

I presume you don't compete because Valerian is prohibited by some competing organisations.

thanks i will give it a go :) and no i dont compete i will let you know how he goes with it :) its impossible having a horse thats a fussy eater lol :)

i feed my project pony who is very nervous valarian root in a handful of chaff with some mint made by naf in it to disguise the strong valarian odour! cheap and works!

The cordial does stink my horse wouldnt touch it unless feed was covered in molasses which was counter productive in my eyes. I ended up getting tablets from holland and barrett and fed them fine.

Oh dear Valerian grows wild on my paddocks, good job we don't compete!

Do you have the right one? The drug is prepared from Valeriana officinalis - the common weed Valerian is more properly - Centranthus ruber - two quite different plants.

What's the stated strength / dosage of those Ossy? And what does the liquid smell like to you?

Possibly a slightly irrelevant post here, but I've taken valerian tablets a couple of times when I was going through periods of not sleeping - they gave me a massive headache and I felt awful next day. Was wondering if it was the same for horses.
