i was wondering if valerian in tablet form for humans (from health food shops etc) can be given to horses? obviously dosage would need to be adjusted etc but would it be the same thing or would there be problems?
Two issues come to mind, though. One is dosage. Horses don't react to all medications in the same way people do and sedation is defintely in this group. It may not be as simple as figuring by weight.
yes, we used to use it for my sister's tb if he got totally stressed out about something - he was 16'2 and would get 3 capsules which took the edge off but wasn't as sedating as something like sedalin
I've been looking into valarian, I ended up getting the lincoln cordial, its cheap they only have to have 10mls a day. Magnesium calmers werent' working so I had a chat with my vet as I wanted to check if it was ok for a horse that had had lami in the past. I'm hoping that as its banned might mean it works lol as I need it to have very good effect on my 35 year old who thinks he's 3
