Valuation help please

I've been asked by owners what the value is of their newly backed mare - (for insurance purposes at this stage) but she's not the type I normally have for sale and I haven't a clue! She's a 4 yo, 15 hh TBxWelsh Cob - but with generic passport - no breeding details. Has definitely thrown more to the TB - and is very pretty, if a little light of bone for my liking (but then, I do breed Irish Draughts!)

She's JUST backed and starting to hack and has come along very well indeed - accepting the bit nicely and very forward going (although not at ALL strong or flighty)

I think she'd make a very nice small dressage horse - her action is very good and she's very trainable.

Any thoughts?
 
urrhhhhhhhh In this "economic climate" i would reckon about 2700 maybe more ? I wouldnt normally know but my 6yo pretty, lightish cob of unknown breeding was insured for about 2000.

She sounds a really nice sort and with such a good start in life I was thinking somewhere in the region of £2,750-£3,500, agree it's quite hard to say with the current economic climate.
 
Unfortunately at only 15 hh I would guess not a lot in this economic climate. Some years ago I had my 15.1 gelding for sale. He was 8 years old and had been to the nationals at prelim and had 149 points, was good to hack and jump. I didn't have much interest - people would have snapped my hand off if he had been a hand taller but he was too big for junior riders.

Not much help but I would guess about £2k
 
Has she got good conformation? With that breeding she might be a small hunter type. If so could make an Intermediate show hunter which would increase her value. Do you have any photos?

She's nicely put together but I don't DO showing! Haven't any photos - just video of her working if that's any use?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nX5KnJu424&NR=1 (That was her 2nd time off the lunge - 1st canter!)
 
I have a 14.2 for sale of nowhere near the quality of that mare and have 3 viewers and is priced at £2350......I'd love that mare *sighs* but need to not have too many horses!! :-))

Is she reasonable good all round on conformation? - and move straight?
If so, I'd double check her height, then tidy her up a little (pull tail etc) and pop her into BSPS type adverts (as said above) as either Intermediate WHP/SHP if over 15hh, or as 15hh shp/whp.
Would be worth seeing what shape she makes over a fence - even on the lunge. There will be some looking out for potential winter novices to bring out at the end of season shows before the indoor season starts.
Start offers in region of £3500 if the jump is naturally there & she's a BSPS type, be prepared to downshift if necessary

Edited to add, if you can get her popping a few fences, then poss more (£5k+) as parents WILL pay for pretty but sensible if the animal is right

Just what I am shopping for tomorrow and I have been quoted from £2.5K to £4K depending on size and where they with their education. I would say nearer the lower end but will move up in value quickly if she is ameniable and bright as you say she has been thus far.
 
She is very nice. But with her lack of education I'd say the most you can ask is £3k. She doesn't have any individual feature that would take her over this figure, imo. So maybe advertise for £3.5k and be willing to come down?
 
Hi! You saw the photo of my chestnut mare on your other thread... she is TB x Connie, 15hh, and at a loosly similar stage to your customers mare. Going ok with basics in the school, and has done a little hacking. She was advertised at £2.5k, and this was around the mark I was looking, I offered a little less than this and we agreed a sale. I'd say for valuation/insurance purposes, around £2500 to £2800 would be about right. Once you get to around 6 - 7 yrs and they have more experience that figure would go up.
