Hi all,

Right, little project pony is ready to sell. I advertised him for a couple of months at the beginning of the winter but took him off soon after as simply no calls whatsoever about him! So turned him away for a while and am about to start slowly bringing him back into work to try and get a few more competitions under his belt before properly trying to sell in March. Due to the market, could you tell me if my price of £2,500 is about right for this little pony?:-

13.1hh reg Welsh B (excellent showing bloodlines), gelding. Will be 5 in about April time. Backed early last year and did some in-hand showing (placed in all classes) and a couple of SJ events over the summer (got round easily). Second time out he moved up to a 2'6 class as he's scopey and unphased. Think he could be a decent BSJA. Limited outings as Im too big on him to compete him so can only do what my borrowed rider can! He's nice and straight, good confirmation, no blemishes etc. Could make lovely WHP (M&M or plaited) once he's filled out as obviously he's still a bit weedy. Good all ways to date. Fab nature, but he is naturally forward going (not buzzy or strong though) which means he isnt a beginners / novice pony. I priced him at £2,500 as he isnt your usual PC plod, he is something a bit special (farrier said the same!). Ideas?
 
Pricing ponies is very tricky.
People want safe pony club ponies and will pay a lot of money for them.
I think you'd struggle to get 2.5k for him- I'd price him under 2k to get interest.
 
Hi, firstly if your looking to sell him as a show pony id sell him in the H&H and horse quest, the trouble is for his height only children can ride him, so he wont appeal to any novice or nervous riders. But on the good side a showing family would probably buy him and put an experienced jocky on him for a while, but id say put him up for £2500 ono and expect to get about £2k for him.
Ive now got a very very nice riding horse up for sale as he's too much for me, and due to the fact he's very green still and the current financial market im having to sell him for less than I want.

Definately not going as low as £1500 as he's just too good for that. Ive seen most seem to start at £2k and thats for plod-along boring average things. This pony, I feel could easily affiliate and do rather well. I guess its hard to prove though...

I think the only thing against him is purely his age as although he's safe, obviously he's not been in work long enough to prove it.

I guess I should just try and get him out as much as possible over the next few months so he's seen and gains more experience? I cant decide which disipline to focus more on though - anyone know which increases value most (eventing for example)?
 
PUK / NPs. BSPS type qualfiers, selling with a championship ticket adds value and proves they can do it. Also flat showing.
No age limits for sirders, so just need small person to take him in and get his tickets.
Then advertise as M&M WHP

Thanks Taffster, I didnt think £2500 was overpricing him but then with the market I have no idea how much prices have dropped!
 
Plod-along boring average things are what mothers want at that height, and unless he's out jumping registered you'll not get that price for an essentially unproven pony.
Sorry.
I would agree with max 1.5k.
 
Pics for conformation? It may help with valuing him. But i jus sold my 12.2hh same as yours type thing but 10yrs old as we were getting a new horse on our field, although without bloodlines but i jumped him 4ft and had to sell him for just £1300

He so wasnt worth that low closer to 2500ish and could easy affiliate
