6 yr old 17hh gelding by Renkum Valentino, out of a decent mare (who's name escapes me)
Got him in to school at the moment but owner has to sell him as she cant ride any more through injury. He's very careful, just started jumping newcomers and is double clear virtually everytime. Got a LOT of scope but with that comes a cheeky attitude- he has a buck and a kick out at his fences when he thinks it's all great fun!!
He's a lot of horse and has got a lot of talent. I've got no idea how much he's worth!

I'll buy him, £200 ok?

Shame because he's just my sort of horse, but you'd easily get £8000 for him the way horse prices are now. My ex racer who i sold 2 years ago for £3500 has been advertised in the local paper agian, £4500 for a 15year old only jumping discovery

seriously? for a horse thats jumping newcomers and has some attitude? (bearing in mind i really know nothing about SJers!!)

Is your price based on the breeding side of things? (just curious as i find figures people slap on horses amazing these days!!)

Id try for big money to start- you can always go down but you cant go up- advertise for £15k for a couple of weeks- if all fails change your piccies and drop your price- hes worth what someone will pay! Good luck.

Are you being serious HJ !

Boss, he looks lovely, for a quick sale 6-7 K or hold out longer for a bit more I reckon.

5-6k, no way 15-20k!!! you can get a decent young riders horse for 22k so no way you wld get 20k for something only jumping newcomers!

thats what i was thinking..........Horse prices are riduculous these days...........

Hows your horse btw? Has the vet been yet?

actually having seen some proces acheived for a 6yo jumping regular DCs at Newcomers (hopefully qualified second rounds?!) with a lot of scope to go on and good breeding you could easily get 10k+. winnings and DCs will play a part though. He sounds like a professionals horse though or a very good amateur in order to keep that 'spirit' in line

I'd say about £8k.

If you have got qualified for things then it can be higher.

Those who think it's worth £15k - are you really serious???

Breeding will go so far, but as a gelding it won't be something that can be passed on, so no breeding potential.

It's a nice sort, and the ones with quirks are usually the good ones!

I was offered £12k for Hannah when she was jumping double clears at newcomers 6 years ago, yes she had scope and she was winning classes as well but if this horse does have serious potential and the record to prove it then I would certainly ask £15k, of course no guarantee it will sell, but if someone later buys at 9 or 10 they'll probably think it was a bargain!!

But then I would never pay that much for a horse so probably not the best person to ask.

To sell quickly I would say anywhere between £7.5 to £10K, more if you are prepared to wait or could get some double clears at Foxhunter. Sounds as if it would need a decent amateur or pro to sit the bucks though which may limit the market a bit.

I would say between £8-10k if he has scope and is doing double clears easily - he sounds just like Bud, with his attitude too - and recently my trainer said if i had to try and replace Bud talent etc would be looking to pay £10k, only thing might put people off is his size?

Well id say put him up for no less then £15K and go from there - it doesnt matter that he has a bit of attitude all teh good horses have quirks and that would make no odds to me as long as he did the job - he is a lovely sort

His size might and attitude might put amateurs off - especially smaller girls/ladies.

What's his winnings/double clears/qualifications?

And if you were aiming him at the one horse amateur competition rider rather than the professional what is he like to shoe, box, clip and all that?

I'm 5'6 and 8 stone, he's fine for me but then I'm quite used to quirks and naughties! He'd probably do best with a man though, you're right.
He's very good to do, doesnt use his size against you.

Thanks for a suggestions, I'm not sure how much winnings he has, I will suggest a figure of 8-10k to the owner

When i was going to sell Star, i advertised and had people wanting to buy her at £8950 - she was advertised as a dressage/SJ horse as has scope to burn for both and she was 9/10 at the time!! As holly said there is no harm aiming for the higher price and seeing what happens
