Dear All,

I am returning from working abroad and have two horses to sell. I am not looking to advertise them on this forum but I would like some feedback from all of the H&H forum members as to what they would suggest their value would be?!

I have spent hours researching on all of the websites and trawling through advert after advert but realistically I would like to know what people would pay. For his type the prices I have seen range from 6000 up to an unrealistic 10,000.

He is a 6 year old Grey 16.2hh Gelding by Accondy, fabulous paces, temperament and attitude. He has only ever competed unaffiliated, always placed dressage, has jumped all spooky SJ fillers, water trays etc and full variety of XC schooling fences. He really is top quality youngster and always receives admiring comments from other riders, trainers and judges.

As I say, I am NOT advertising on this forum but I would just like to see what you all would suggest for a value. I will take him out to Intro/PN Events in the Spring and then I know he will be worth more but I am thinking 6500?? Is that way off the mark?? It's been a long time since I've sold in the open market so suggestions please or comments??

Many Thanks

If its any help I paid £4k for my boy whose similar (only 16h though but had some BSJA money). personally I would want a couple of safe runs at intro level before I'd pay £6.5k, I may a bit of a cheap skate though, or lucky to find my boy for a reasonable price! Not a great time of year to sell.Think you'd be able to up your price if you could wait to spring, get a couple of decent affiliated results & sell him ready to go. Good luck with whatever you decide

more than that imho, if he's that nice. if he's got really good conformation, good feet, moves straight and well, done all the early stuff well, and goes nicely round a few Intros or PNs, then i think 10 ish tbh. good luck!

Decide what you want for him, advertise for a bit more and if the phone doesnt ring he is too expensive. Keep reducung the price until you get some interest then you know you have hit the right mark.
He is only worth what a buyer will pay, and at the moment it is very difficult to sell anything.

If he gets a good record at PN, about 8-10k. We used to sell well bred horses for 8k at 5yrs once they had done a couple of Intro's as long as they had gone well, but with obvious work needed on flatwork etc.

At the moment, he is worth about 4-5k as he is 6 and hasnt done a lot to show potential.

Blue, I would disagree re. nothing selling!!

I just bought a 7yr old 15.2hh gelding with wins at intro and decent runs pre novice.......straight forward, brilliant feet, moves well, good in traffic etc, has pony clubbed and hunted.

We paid 6500 for him yesterday

As he's only done unaffiliated, as daisychain says - prob £4500 Id say. Be good if you could get him out even to say a couple of intro's, and then you can price him depending on how well he does at those.

if he were mine i would pay the cost of a horse deals/horsequest advert now (its not very much) and i'd put him up for about 8k. its more than i think he's worth but its amazing what people will pay for horses...if he doesn't sell then do some events in the spring and if he gest results put himup for 10k....the grey inmy siggy was advertised at 10k and he was noway worth thatmuch....someone paid it tho! ijust had to wait 2 months to sell rather than a couple of weeks
