Valuing my 2yr old

How on earth do I start valuing my 2 yr old gelding. He is incredibly well bred, is v well put together - I can't find a comparable on the market. Can anyone nudge me in the right direction? Please?!!!
I know there are various sales abroad, but is there anything in the UK of young horses to see what things are making at the moment? Do I base his worth on the European auctions? I need somebody that knows about this area to talk some sense.

This is an exceptionally hard question to answer and depends on a wide range of factors. Here's a start: What is his breeding exactly? What is the competition record of each of his parents like? If his mother has not competed is she graded into any studbooks and if so with what kind of scores? Have you taken him to the Futurity and if so what did he get? What is his conformation and character like? Does he have any siblings and if so what have they done in competition? Do you have any pictures of your boy? Has he ever had any medical problems?
Sure there are loads more things to consider but this should start the ball rolling!
 
You could have a look at the sold prices on brightwells auctions. Assuming you mean sj/dressage/eventing
 
He is by Kannan out if a mare that jumped to 1.20 who is by Animo out of the same mother as Billy Twomey's Tinkas Serenade. No he's never been to a futurity, he was a beautiful foal and yearling but he is not a good looking two year old, although I have no doubt he will be a smart three year old - as everthing is in the right place it just hasn't grown at the same rate this last year! He is looking like finishing up quite big. He'd be 16.1 now with masses of bone.

TBH, with the market as it is, you'll be very lucky to get what he's actually worth whether that be to you or his actual value in a normal market. There was a nicely bred Kaanan yearling sold locally and they struggled to get £750 recently, sorry to be a kill joy.
 
Ask the owner of Kannan, at the stallion company. Kannans are doing incredibly well everywhere and every week there is a kannan in the top ten at all the top international showjumping shows.Im sure he'd fetch a fair price. The market is still very buoyant for the fashionable stallions.
 
I think if you go an Addington's website there is some info on prices the young horses made in their sale. The Davenports used Kannan a lot and would be worth talking to as would Jonathan Parrott who has a few by him as well. My view would be anything by him should be worth good money whatever the market as they are doing so well at the moment - there was a half share sold in a 4 year old by Kannan that went for over £25k that I know of just over a year ago.

The market is very quiet, I had two homebreds for sale this year, a 2012 foal who has sold and I have a two year old, she has excellent breeding, she was advertised but had NO interest, she had been to Futurity as a yearling and also shown at county level as a sport horse.

We have decided to keep her, break her and sell her as a rising 4-y-o as I think she will be significantly more appealing and will be worth more.
